Unbelieving leaders?

"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Romans 13:7 NIV

Obey the law. Be respectful. Our Constitution grants us freedom of religion, so Caesar permits us to preach the Gospel, and worship God as we want to here.

There are other countries that forbid preaching the Gospel, which would create an Acts 5 type situation for Christians there.

When the government comes against that of what God established in the beginning are we to still follow that of a corrupted government? Even now our constitution is being ripped to shreds at the hands of a corrupt government.

Thanks for elaborating.
But should we strictly adhere to all the law establishes, whether good or bad? I think thats where I have a problem

You see....thats just the problem.
That woman had to be demoted (moved to a new office) all because she wouldnt take nonsense from the boss. They already told the boss before the boss took over: That Christian would do what she believe is right. What next? She was moved

Correct me if I am wrong Gary but I think you are saying that we should not get into battles with the government or bosses. At the same time we are not to do things, even if they say so, that are against the righteousness of God.
I think that is what I hear from you?

I always take it for granted that people would automatically know not to go against God.

I am not sure who was demoted, or why. However, that sounds more like an employer, not Caesar.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers? Should we take instructions from our unbelieving bosses? Should we just let down their orders? Move on? Believe it or not the world seems to have more number of unbelieving leaders than the believing ones. Check our leaders.

If he instructions are related to our faith life, then no we don't need to take instructions from unbelieving bosses. But if the instructions are related to wordly matters (like our work) then taking instructions from our bosses makes sense, since we signed a work contract... except the instrucions make us act against our faith or are counter-productive for our work dangerous/ illegal.

Obeying the law and following a government are not the same thing.

Obeying the law and following a government are not the same thing.

Is it not the government that establishes new laws that are separate then that of what God already established. Our government establishes many laws that come against those laws/commandments of God.

There are laws that were especially written just for the Hebrews pertaining to the rituals of the Temple, sacrifices, festivals, Torah, Kohanim and Levites, the King and the Nazarite and then there are the existing moral laws for all of us to still follow as in prayers and blessings, love and brotherhood, the poor and unfortunate, treatment of the Gentiles, Marriage, divorce and family, forbidden sexual relations, business practices, employees and servants, vows, oaths, swearing, Court and Judicial procedures, injuries and damages, property and property rights, Criminal laws, prophecy, idolatry and all its practices as the moral laws keep us in line with the will of God that we present ourselves a vessel of honor that God delights in as we allow the light of Christ shine in us and through us as a testimony of Gods grace and mercy as it is not ourselves that do any good thing, but Gods Spirit working in us and through us as we surrender our will to that of Gods will to be done.

All this does not address what I said nor does it answer what you said.
You said, "should we follow the government"?
I said, obeying and following are not the same thing".
I agree that we should not obey laws that are contrary to our Christian faith.
But that has nothing to do with following a government.
Following a government has to do with patriotism, nationalism.
We are not called to do that either.

And while I'm on the subject, it has amazed me for years now that every church celebrates our independence day, the birth of our country, but ignores celebrating Pentacost Sunday, the birth of Christianity.
Many church leaders have it backwards to my dismay.

I guess I do not see the difference between obeying and following then as if I am following something that is suppose to be authoritative I should be obeying that authority, but yet if that authority comes against the word of God I am not going to follow and obey that which is established by the government. My patriotism is to that of God and He alone as we are instructed to not conform to this world. My nationalism is that of Christ Jesus as I pledge myself to Him alone.
