Good to know. And the good thing is, no US politician is advocating for us to move to a socialist economy or government. Folks like AOC and Bernie want what the Scandinavian countries have....capitalism with a strong safety net.
I don't believe that. If it were true they would vote to deregulate doing business in America, and cause the economy to roar. They want central planning, and incrementally they legislate that direction.

You don't believe what? That they are Democratic Socialists (the same type that exists in Scandinavian countries)?

And unless you think your neighbor should be free to start up a nuclear waste repository and tire burning service right up against your shared property line, you are indeed in favor of at least some regulations.

I agree, they don't tells us what they incrementally are accomplishing through regulations. Hence the bill to stop the attack on gas stoves:

Except no one is proposing to ban gas stoves. The focus was instead about switching to a type of gas stove that gives off less NO2, which causes things like childhood asthma.

U.S. economy grows at blockbuster pace in third quarter

The U.S. economy grew by an annual rate of 4.9 percent in the third quarter, the strongest pace since 2021, as spending — by families, businesses and the government — accelerated, even in the face of fast-rising borrowing costs.

New government data released Thursday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis shows that gross domestic product expanded between July and September, capping five straight quarters of growth and eluding a long-feared recession.

The US economy is propped up by the News coming straight from our government!

The US economy continues to grow worse and worse!

To repeat...."they're all lying" isn't a meaningful argument, and is mostly indicative of a cult-like mindset.

Here is Joe Bidens Easter Proclamation -

“Transgender Day of Visibility”

A Proclamation on Transgender Day of Visibility, 2024

  1. HOME
  2. BRIEFING ROOM
  3. PRESIDENTIAL ACTIONS
On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and reaffirm our Nation’s commitment to forming a more perfect Union — where all people are created equal and treated equally throughout their lives.
I am proud that my Administration has stood for justice from the start, working to ensure that the LGBTQI+ community can live openly, in safety, with dignity and respect. I am proud to have appointed transgender leaders to my Administration and to have ended the ban on transgender Americans serving openly in our military. I am proud to have signed historic Executive Orders that strengthen civil rights protections in housing, employment, health care, education, the justice system, and more. I am proud to have signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law, ensuring that every American can marry the person they love.

Except NY in new buildings. Rather than a warning sticker to open a window for more ventilation, they will heap on regulations that cost us money when prices go up to meet them.

Huh? So if you had your way, we'd go back to leaded gas and paint, and just put warning stickers on them?

Or perhaps we should do away with FAA and NTSB regulations on requirements for pilots and plane safety?

Or do away with EPA regs that stop me from dumping my old paint into the aquifer we both use?

Or do away with speed limits in school zones that impede efficient delivery of goods?

Never said zero regulation is best, that's a straw man.

Calvin Coolidge, JFK, Reagan and Trump rolled back regulations, most of which are inane and stupid, forced upon business by people who never were in business and don't have a clue how to produce anything.

To illustrate the principle, Students among others began painting addresses on curbs in my city. They did well, sales were great. Its smart to let first responders see your address. The Statists at city hall were alarmed, suppose one of them caused property damage? So the city required they get million dollar insurance. Alas, few would offer them anything because they weren't given contractor licenses. So they vanished. No more curb painting. And the students really made big $$$ in a few hours work, it was a great way for them to make money, until Big Government and Big Statists crushed them.

Another example. The city of Murrietta was alarmed taxi's were unregulated by their city, so they demanded all drivers pay up front, for a license. But most people don't know if they would like working as a cab driver. So when the city began demanding fees up front, I had to pay it. After losing almost $500 on drivers quitting after a day, I stopped taxi service in Murrietta. Uber serves them now, and they aren't required to pay the city anything up front.

A business acquaintance had a wall built, and the city inspector passed it. Later, a new inspector claimed it was approved in error, because it didn't fit a certain standard, not because it wasn't well built or safe. So he had to tear it down and redo it, at great expense. I bet no city official's relative would have suffered the loss.

Every now and then Trump (who you hate) talks about the regulations he rolled back, and sometimes comments the experts credited that for the booming economy, a lot more than tax cuts.

What is a conservative estimate of the percentage cost government regulations add to the price

ChatGPT
The percentage cost that government regulations add to the price of goods and services can vary widely depending on the industry, the specific regulations, and the country. In general, more heavily regulated industries, such as healthcare, finance, and energy, tend to have higher regulatory costs.

For example, in the United States, a study by the National Association of Manufacturers found that federal regulations cost businesses an average of $19,564 per employee per year in 2012, with the costs being higher for smaller businesses.

Another study by the Competitive Enterprise Institute estimated that federal regulation and intervention cost American consumers and businesses an estimated $1.9 trillion in 2019.

In some sectors, regulatory costs can account for a significant portion of the final price. For instance, in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory compliance costs associated with research, development, and approval processes can contribute significantly to the final cost of drugs.

It's important to note that while regulations can add costs, they also serve important purposes such as ensuring safety, protecting the environment, and maintaining fair competition. The net impact of regulations on prices and the economy is a complex issue that involves trade-offs between these benefits and the associated costs.

For a conservative estimate, it would be reasonable to say that government regulations can add anywhere from a few percentage points to upwards of 10% or more to the cost of goods and services in highly regulated industries. However, this is a rough estimate and the actual impact can vary significantly.

So it looks like you and I probably agree then. Some regulations are good, some are so-so, and some are unnecessary or even counter-productive.

That's why simplistic slogans like "roll back regulations" are meaningless without clearly saying what specific regulations the person thinks need to be rescinded.

Funny thing too about your local examples, near where I live one of the local radio stations often has conservative politicians and candidates on and I'm often amused by how many of them go on and on about things like abortion, foreign aid, international relations, etc., while barely speaking at all about the local issues they're actually supposed to be working on!

One of these days I'm gonna call in and say "You do realize that you have zero say in State or National policies, right? Now, tell me what you're going to do about the terrible roads, lack of infrastructure, and other local issues that are within your authority to do something about!"

I second that. "All Politics is local" might overstate it, but where we live has more to do with us than what happens in China etc.

I will give politics a break, devote more time to the theology and apologetic forums, so if you hear from me less frequently, that is why.

Under President Biden the US dollar has been extremely strong. That's good for investors, US consumers, and the country as a whole as it keeps the dollar as the dominant currency on the world market.

So what does Donald plan to do if elected? Not only does he plan to give more tax breaks to the super rich and mega corporations, he and his team also want to devalue the US dollar....on purpose! Apparently they're thinking a weaker dollar would help with foreign trade, but they're also ignoring that a weaker dollar would spur massive inflation, cause global markets to move to other currencies, trigger more trade wars (as other countries take counter-measures), and make US securities less valuable (thereby increasing our debt).

Trump trade advisers plot dollar devaluation

Economic advisers close to former President Donald Trump are actively debating ways to devalue the U.S. dollar if he’s elected to a second term — a dramatic move that could boost U.S. exports but also reignite inflation and threaten the dollar’s position as the world’s dominant currency.

Add in Donald's plan to add massive tariffs to imports (which are paid by consumers), and we get a clear picture of his economic vision....run the economy exclusively for the super wealthy and mega corporations, massively raise costs for the American middle and lower classes, and severely weaken the US dollar.

Why in the world would anyone not in the top 1% vote for such nonsense?

That's not how the debt works.
Correct.
Growth and inflation means higher wages.
Higher wages means more taxable income.
More taxable income means more revenue for the federal government.
More revenue means revenue to debt ratio increases.
When ratio of revenue increases, debt is offset.
When debt is offset, more money can be borrowed.
