Viruses and antiviruses

What antivirus do you use? I don't think there's a perfect antivirus. I have tried many antiviruses. They don't seem to be good enough.

I have one virus (and more, I know) in my system whose name is PLAYLIST. The psycho virus doesn't wanna leave. I have tried all antiviruses.

There are some rats out there busy creating viruses. Some also release the antivirus. Some don't bother to create antiviruses for them.

Please buy antiviruses - don't always go for the free ones - they don't have all the features needed. And not that the ones we buy are perfect. They are alot better.

I use Vipre on all my computers. And sometimes I use Comodo Firewall with it which gives me 2 Firewalls. I also use Zemana Anti Keylogger. Bit Defender is also top notch. Bit Defender is no joke, i'll tell you that. And neither is Vipre. Vipre won't even let you go to a bad site unless you cut it off, or go into the control panel and give it permission.

These are new to me. I have always known Avast and the rest of them. I would be trying these. Thanks for sharing. Any links?

Wait for it....wait for it....wait for it...

I expect Tim to pipe in any minute. :p

I have been using the freeware version AVG for the past eight to ten years and have yet to pick up anything to my knowledge aside from a few tracking cookies that are removed every week when I run the computer scan.

I also supplement the anti-virus using Ccleaner and run and clean registry files monthly. This has worked well for us.

In the 13 years that we've been using PC's in our home I've only experienced one issue; we picked up a hijacker. I was using Windows98SE OS with McAfee at the time. I used HijackThis and was able to remove it even though I had pretty much zero registry knowledge.

Wow!
It depends on how often you use the NET, share memory devices, transfer data using blueooth or infrared etc.

Maybe we need to verify how strong and well protected your system is, WIP. I need to send you one of my SD cards so you could use it on your system. Will your system survive? I tell you, millions of those crazy sociopaths called virus would hijack and beat up your system:chin

Maybe I should share the card to CF.net :lol

Virus? Yeah I had a bad one. Confined to the bathroom all day! :toofunny

Oh, computer? :toofunny What's a computer virus? :D

Viruses are all those microscopic electromagnetic cochroaches that see a plate and convert it into a spoon. Does that help?:lol

There's no straight-forward definition. It's manmade antiprogram (computers and similar stuff), simply put (looking at the OP).
Some are just legal and are used by programmers to secure and monitor software so that you can't steal or copyright it.

CC clearner is great I use it sometimes, I now yuse Clean My PC for all of that. I have not used hijack this in years. No this guy's that some virus software will not pick up certain files, and they will be in your system undetected by you. The better ones like Bit Defender, Vipre, Panda, and Nod 32. do a complete job. I have used AVG a lot too' and AntiVir, they are better than no program at all. but when you are into computers like I am, you tend to get top notch software because you know what can happen. Another good program is Advanced System Care.

And it is not encouraging to use many antiviruses at the same time (even if they are from the same company). I know what it did to my phones:sad

It made my phones suffer digital dementia.

No just use one Virus program but you can use 2 firewalls. Except if you are using Webroot anti virus it will not allow it. Webroot is another top notch anti virus program it is very sensitive it is to sensitive for me.

Firewalls at times give me the creeps:bigfrown

Need prompting all the time on USB, CDs, most pages etc. I had to undo them in order to proceed. But firewall's good

:biglol

Yeah, I saw this coming too. :lol But I'm on Tim's side. :yes I use Windows at work because of necessity. Anti virus and firewall protection is corporate and network initiated.

But at home I'll boot into Windows only if I have to. Transferring files to my MP3 player using MTP works better in Windows. Ubuntu doesn't recognise files transferred by Windows using MTP. I could wipe out the MP3 player and re-transfer using Ubuntu, but then Windows may not see them. :lol

So since I use the MP3 player at work and at home, booting into Windows is an easier (and lazier) option.

As for anti virus and anti malware tools, I don't use them. I'm not on my Windows installation long enough to worry about it. Just about all my downloading, banking and e-commerce is done in Linux.

Whats the official opinion of microsoft security essentials?

Ive been using it for quite awhile now with no complications thus far but have always wondered how it stacks up to the gurus.
