Right.

Yes, even the righteous sin. But God sees them as righteous nonetheless because they habitually do what is right. The bible calls these the righteous! Like Abel etc....and not just so called in the OT...notice the NT verse in Luke 1:6

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

I think you've been listening to Bob George too much. A righteous man abhors sin and turns away from sin. He doesn't continue to dwell in sin, he turns away from it - he sees what it did to the Son of God.

Man is not "free" to sin once He comes to the knowledge of Christ.
Let us hope so, and let us hope not (in that order)

Thanks.

Who's Bob George? :shrug

"No, O people, the LORD has already told you what is good, and this is what he requires: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." Mic. 6:8

Thanks RND :thumb

These are the basic requirements for salvation. :yes

It is never wrong to do what is right. Believing and trusting are all a part of doing what is right. If we begin to believe that we are justified through believing, then we are justifying ourselves and soon we are doing what is wrong in God's sight. If we keep this simple idea, we will be much stronger in the face of temptation. This is our duty...to do what is right in God's sight.

Above is the way of righteousness. Now there is also a higher way. That is the way of holiness. In this Way we are surrendered to Christ who works in us by resurrection power.

Both ways work together. Both ways are Christian. One is active and the other is supernatural. There is no passive way that is Christian.

John

but "the way of righteousness" is not necessarily the same as "being saved by doing what is right".

We are saved by grace through faith, and not based on works so that no one can boast. (Eph 2:8-9) Well, I guess one could speak of being saved by works, but the only works anyone could ever be saved by are the works of Christ. Christ's works are perfect, without sin, the bible says that even our righteous deeds are tainted with sin. Isaiah 64:6 (ESV) We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away."

However I do agree that genuine salvation will always be accompanied by good works. But it is important to know that while good works and genuine salvation will not occur separately, they must also never be confused with one another. This leads to works righteousness, eg the Roman Catholic system or something like it, and thus, to a false gospel, one Paul argues strongly and clearly against in Galatians.

Justification by faith is the root of salvation, and good works is the fruit.

The end of the way of righteousness is salvation....otherwise John the Baptist and every righteous person before him are doomed.

When compared to God, all our works are as filthy rags...yes. Notice the comparison.

This is not a woks argument. It is a scale argument. You have no strength compared to God right? So who takes out the trash at your house?

Justification by faith is the root of salvation, and good works is the fruit.

...and we are justified by our deeds, and love is the fruit. It cuts both ways. :thumb
