We only use 10% of our brain capacity. how does this myth perpetuate? I saw it in a kids movie I hired for the kids last weekend. The story tellers would have to know its a myth presented to young children.

I so love it when someone proclaims" Just as we only use 10 % of our brains capacity (insert point being made here)", and there goes my credibility because of my intro lol.

10% of brain myth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i dont believe in the toe, but i was taught in marine biology. waste not want not. nature doesnt let something be part of an organism and not have a function.

I often wondered about that 10% myth myself. I thought maybe that meant that only 10% was active at any given time, but different regions are eventually active meaning at some point in time 100% is used. However, judging from posts from other threads, sometimes I think that 10% myth is true. :biglol

I think what they mean is that we only use 10% of our brain's capacity for thought. Take a computer as an analogy. You may have a computer that has 16 GB of memory and a terrabyte of hard disk space, but only use 1.6 GB of memory and only fill 100 GB of the hard disk. Then you're only utilizing 10% of your computer's power. But that doesn't mean you can take 90% of it and throw it away. You're using every piece - the memory, the hard disk, the video card, sound card, etc. - but you're not using it's full power.

so this is a myth huh? aww, MAN, there goes about 10 good conversations i used to have, lol

like, "if we only use 10%, imagine if we tapped the other 90 and could suddenly walk through walls and move stuff with our minds"

i will, from now on, be a boring person
