So...OK. I got saved 2, 2 1/2 years ago. Completely different person now, praise God! Also, I've had a lot of involuntary electroshock (yes, they still do that and yes, they'll do it to you even if you don't want it or, like me, are sedated and crazy. Its like the 50s all over again, I swear).
I'm 30. Now that some of my memories have been returned to me (its been a bit over 7 years since round 2 of the electroshock), I realize...
...I was a weakling. I mean, its humbling, in a good way, to realize that everything I have comes directly from The Lord, and He's seen fit to do a mighty work in my life already, only 2 years in, just because...well...I'm not quite sure why, lol. Love, I'm assuming.
But anyway, yeah...weakling. A lot went into that. Got me to thinking...what about all the other "weaklings" and "losers" in today's world? Especially since people around here say stuff like "hey man, survival of the fittest" and "every man for himself."
For me, this is an awesome situation. I'm not really a "weakling" anymore, not really, but I acknowledge my need for Christ and forgiveness, etc. But...for society? I'm thinking of US society here. I get the impression that a lot of other societies have some concept of "the common good" and a safety net set up to at least take the edge off what life throws our way.
How can a society survive when its "every man for himself" ? These are the sorts of thoughts that keep me coming back to Christ, you know? Because "love thy neighbor as thyself" is definitely true and the way to go. Yes, mostly because Jesus says so, but also because...what's the alternative? Everybody at each others' throats, the war of all against all, non-stop until a couple "winners" reign supreme?
What's extra frightening, for me at least, is that "mental health professionals" seem to buy into this in a big way. No wonder so few people recover from severe mental problems. How could they/we, with the health care providers having that sort of an outlook?
But...the point (there is one...I think...)...is that I think one reason US culture is in such a mess is because we're becoming so aggressive and self-seeking that...well...people just don't matter, especially "losers" and "weaklings." Survival of the fittest, right?
Anyway...random thought running through my mind today. I praise God for His work in my own life, the life of a "weakling" saved by grace, but I also encourage you all to pray for and reach out to the "losers" and "weaklings" around you, even if (especially if?) they're not (yet) Christian.
