What causes mental illness

I'm not saying that this is the case today. BUT, in the days that Jesus and His disciples walked on the earth, all abnormal behavior was considered demonic. That is, as long as it wasn't a physical deformity or a behavior as the result of. The scope of demonic activity is massive, unfortunately no one wants to admit it because very few people are trained to handle demonic oppression or possession. Demonic deliverance has many paths that can be followed. It has been my observation that parents or children at one time got involved in the occult in some fashion. That is a real problem. Much, much more can be said about this, and I'm no expert on the subject. There are men like Neil Anderson who has devoted his life to victory over this dark element of Satan's realm.

I say all of that, just to expose a dire need for people to enter the Christian, demonic deliverance field. And good luck finding a source for education. I only know of one: The Deliverance Center and Bible Institute, in Portland, Maine.

If you're interested you can check out my thread in "Christian Talk & Advice " forum, called "The Power of Faith & Trust (Victory over Satan) page 3.

Yes,but that was in the days of Jesus a long, long time ago.

Right Kathi it was. I have often wondered, "so has Satan stopped oppressing people in modern times"?
No I do not think so.I think that Satan and his demons are a very scary source around us.We as believers need to keep our armor on.We know that the unbelievers worship satan. We either worship Satan or Jesus Christ...right?I think that many who are unbelievers are indwelled with demons.I can just feel it.I think that those who are mentally ill are more of a target for Satan. But I do not believe that is what the cause is of mental illnesses.

You are right! Not all mental illness is of Satan. The problem is; knowing what is causing mental illness. When it is not of Satan, there are a multiplicity of causes.

For some forms of therapy and some disorders it isn't even necessary to know what caused it in order to treat it. For example, it's not necessary to know where someone's agoraphobia came from. It can be effecively treated only from the knowledge provided by the present symptoms. Cognitive behavioural therapy works that way. It doesn't work well with all kinds of disorders, though. And often people want to have a theory about what caused their issues, and sometimes knowing what caused it can be very helpful for people and even be part of their healing.
On the other hand when people seek therapy oftentimes they or their shrink can only make guesses about the causation of the disorder because the reasons are too complex and often unknown or too far in the past.

So I suspect some people would prefere demons as a cause of their symptoms just so they have an explanation they can understand, while psychology can only give them a theory with many unknowns and a huge number and complexity of variables and connections between those variables.
Demons are an easier to understand concept.

hardly. try really digging into what satan is and also what the fall was and when he fall.

My own situation was such that I was afflicted by early onset mental "issues," which I think made me easy pray for Satan and his minions. That's my theory, at least.

Yes,the problem with mental illnesses is they don't have a test for it like diabetes, thyroid issues.I think they sometimes guess by a person's behavior.I do think that Satan might harrass those who are mentally ill more.

I definitely think satan and his minions go after mentally ill people hardcore. We're a vulnerable group, after all, and satan's motto is Kill, Steal, and Destroy.

I think you are right.Any idea why?I think it is very important that those who love the Lord that are mentally ill need to keep that armor on all the time.

Yup!
(Especially because of our personal victories that in turn we can use to help heal others)
Ever since I started memorizing bible verse again, (just started this year)
I have been comforted when I recite them to myself when I am feeling anxiety or fear.
When I recite the Scriptures it encourages my soul and gives me strength.
