What is eternal liife?

Eternal life (John 17:3) is to know God. To know God is to know and accept His ways. Those who know Him, therefore, do His will (Marr 7:21-23). His will is this, that we love one another as He has loved us (John 12:15). He loved us by humbling Himself to take a human form (in the person of Jesus) and suffering the most painful death in order to bring forgiveness to us, who were unfaithful to Him, betrayed Him and killed Him. Eternal life, therefore, is a life that has surrendered its will to God; sacrificed its own interest to serve others; and has forgiven and healed those who have been unfaithful to it, betrayed it and hurt it.

Satan knows God doesn't he? I don't think he has eternal life or accepts his ways.

There is obviously more to "knowing" God....just as there is more to "believing in God" for even Satan believes in Him. The word "know" is not just knowing about God, but to know Him in an intimate way. Closer to Adam "knew" Eve in marriage. "Know" is one of those words with many meanings.
John 17:3 said:
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

True - man cannot know God without having eternal life.

The question is, how does one obtain eternal life? There are many who believe they know God because they think they have eternal life. But do they?

We must be born again. It's only by the Spirit of God abiding in our hearts that we can know God.
1 Corinthians 2:11 said:
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

We've all been "snake bit"...we must look to Christ for our salvation.
John 3:14-16 said:
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Eternal Life is the opposite of Eternal Death...at this point in time...both are in the future.
The beginning of eternal death is the Lake of Fire.
The beginning of Eternal Life is the New World.

There are only 2 paths...you must be on one or the other.

The path to Eternal Life or the path to eternal death.

Eternal Life is Life with out death ...sin and evil.

Eternal Life is the Life of God...without no end.

Yes, man must be born again in order to inherit eternal life. But how is man born again?

The Greek word for "Know" in this verse is ginosko, which means to "know" absolutely in a great variety of applications and with many implications. It means to allow, be aware of, feel, have known, perceive, be resolved, can speak, be sure, or understand.

I don't think that Satan can "be sure of" or "understand God's ways." He is the father of lies and the master of deceit. His nature does not allow him to "Know" God in this sense.

By grace you are saved through faith...
By turning to and believing in Jesus Christ.
The Word is filled with verses that explain it very well.
Acts 20:21 said:
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:9-13 said:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Maybe heavens not a "place" but an existence, a glorious golden "Soul Pool" where not only do we see God and Jesus and our deceased loved ones, but we merge with them to become one,in the same way as a million individual raindrops fall into a lake and merge, losing their individuality to become one big lake,no more individuality,no more loneliness..
Jesus spoke of this merging/assimilation :-
"You shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you" (John 14:20)
We can't get any closer to God and Jesus than that:)

Except that Jesus was still a distinct person from the Father. That is eastern philosophy, not Christianity.

Sorry, i don't know what you're talking about.
Incidentally your sig is- "If you can ever make any major religion look absolutely ludicrous, chances are you haven't understood it."--Ravi Zacharias
I can easily make any nonchristian religion look ludicrous, look-

Jesus told us it's a place...
John 14:1-3 said:
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Jesus painted a picture of "many mansions" simply so that our human minds could grasp the majesty and beauty of heaven.
Personally I wouldn't want to live in a bricks-and-mortar mansion anyway

So, just how would "brick-and-mortar mansions" show us "the majesty and beauty of heaven?" That you stated you wouldn't want to live in such a mansion seems to contradict the idea that Jesus' statement was speaking of the majesty and beauty of heaven. Jesus' statement most surely contradicts "your" idea (eastern philosophy) that we will all merge, becoming one and losing our individuality. The idea of losing our individuality goes against the entirety of Scripture.

My point was that since Jesus was distinct from the Father when he said that he was in his Father, it follows that us being in him and him in us does not speak of "merging/assimilation," as you claim.

LOL...I agree. I'm not thinking we'll need any shelter as we know it today.
Under the shadow of His wings would be fine with me. :yes
