What is the cause of atheism?

I believe it starts with the pride and self-rule of man. If man is an atheist, then he doesn't have to answer for his deeds.

As mankind goes on in unbelief, Satan, the god of this world, goes on blinding their minds (2 Cor.4:4).

Dont recall where I got this from, if I got it in my email or, off the net or, from off this forum someplace. So, sorry if I don't have the credits for who wrote it. But here goes:

• According to the atheists, there is no God. They must be right - for, if
  there were, why would he allow atheists to exist? Unless, of course, God had
  a secret plan. Populate the world with cynics and disbelievers and we would
  all find their company so irritating that we would rapidly start seeking
  spiritual solace.

So then, the cause of atheism is to make us seek spiritual solace more often.


Actually, I think the cause of atheism is because the deciever has a hold of their thoughts, mostly. And, I think the cause of athesism with some people is because of some deep rooted problem from some hurt feelings they held onto, or they had such an accumulation of hurts that they then became angry, pointed the anger towards God and decided there is no God. Because, they think, 'How could a loving God allow so much pain and suffering and mean people in this world'. They have no understanding of why suffering even in this world and they think... 'Therefore, everything must be of a random instance'. They eventually grow thoughts that doubt God has anything to do with anything.

Or, some were raised to be atheists by their parents.

Actually, there are many reasons some people lean towards atheism. There have been so many debatres on this forum over the matter and many many threads have been locked because of things getting out of control with the bickering over the Christians vs. the Atheists. Seems the moderators have so many problems keeping civil discussions going in regard to the subject.

Ask the atheists what is the cause of their atheism... They will not admit to it being from some deep rooted problem. The arogance will not allow that admission, nor will the ego allow them to let thier guard down and truly reveal their heart. Because their hearts have been hardened by their doubt, their disbelief. They'll tell you it's rediculous to even think there is a God and then they'll start throwing their arguments and disbelief all over the thread, and the bickering begins.... Those debates seem to end up in stale mate more often than not. :gah


OH, and one more thing.... There is hope. Sure would be cool if they finally come to realize that even a thing such as Hope is a gift from God.

A better question would be "What is the cause of theism?" because no one is born believing in a god or gods. I would say the cause of theism is the projection of consciousness into the unknown. An insensitive example would be the Boogeyman.

All mankind is born without a knowledge of God. The natural man does not understand nor perceive God because he/she is not spiritual, and they perceive anything that is not sensed by the physical to be nonsense. God is spirit and must be worshiped in spirit.

Only until the Spirit of God opens man's eyes and ears to the truth, can he/she then know God. Those that seek God will find him, while those who enjoy their place apart from God will remain therein. I'm sorry, I just find it difficult to take statements like that seriously. To suggest a person becomes an atheist because some nefarious trickster demon- well I rate that kind of thinking right around the same level as the a Greek fisherman of old who sacrificed animals in hopes of placating Poseidon.

Modern atheism began mainly as a revolt against Christianity (historical fact) and much of modern, Western Christianity will likely keep atheism alive.
