What is your favourite genre of music and why?

Nu Metal!

That genre gets way to much flack for being bad. I think it was one of the most creative spirts durring the 90s.

Static-X, Mushroom Head, Early Mudvayn, Spine Shank, Slipknot, and Korn are just examples of what people managed to blend together durring that time. Saddly its so under apreciated.

Limp Bizkit's alright....I prefer the older stuff. Linkin Park is awesome, but still I prefer their older stuff like Hybrid Theory and Meteora. But those bands definately defined Nu Metal.

I actually like Limp Bizkit's first 2 albums, Wes Borland is a great guitarist. You have to admit they are a straight up marketed band, and don't get me started on Fred Durst. I just think Deftones are a bunch of 'posers' although I don't mind a couple of songs, worst live band I've ever seen though. Linkin Park is about as 'mainstream' as nu-metal gets.

Now what's wrong with slipknot? I'll give you that there newest release was pretty lame compared to their older stuff, but Joey Jordison is one of the best drummers out there. I actually got to see Joey drumming for Korn a couple of years ago, well Korn minus a few members which is really too bad, one of the best of the genre.

My favorite genre would have to be symphonic/power metal. It has a metal sound, but brings a lovely mix of other instruments that would typically be used for more classical music. It has a hard, metal quality with the beauty of the symphony. And if the lead female singer has a good range, even better. Some examples are Nightwish (I recommend with their older singer, Tarja) and Epica, who I personally think are especially good.

I adore Industrial. It's dark and intense and lovely. Some of my favorite bands of that genre are The Kovenant, Panzer AG, :wumpscut:... I like many other genres, too. Rock, Grunge, Electronic, even some Dance music. I even listen to some rap, the moody stuff though, like 'Even Shadows Have Shadows' or Eminem's old stuff. :D

Germany and Scandinavian countries have the best metal bands, if you're a metal fan but haven't tried bands from these countries you're missing out a lot. :yes

I also listen to: alternative rock, symphonic metal, darkwave, neoclassical, some goth rock and deathrock.

Cheyenne: Epica and old Nightwish belong to my favourites too! But there's really no need to know many bands of this genre because they're very similar to each other and copying each other and a lot of them aren't worth listening... but I find specially these two bands really good.

I love the bands you listed, Blind Guardian especially.

I can understand where you are coming from on that though. Many do sound very similar. From my experiance though, if you can find a vocalist with a distinct sound, chances are you'll have a good band. Within Temptation is an example of this. Eluveitie is a good band too, as far as folk metal goes.

WT are not bad, though some of their songs seem too "pop" to me. I've heard of Eluveitie but nothing by them yet, but I will try to find something by them.
And I've just discovered Battlelore and enjoying them a lot [I have been a LOTR fanatic already for about 13 years, or course I'd love a metal band that is inspired by LOTR themes XD ]

Yeah. Depends on the album. I know "The Heart of Everything" has more poppy stuff than the others. As for Eluveitie, I could give you a link if you wanted.

And I've actually only heard of Battlelore from the last few months, but they seem really good from what I have heard.

Bluegrass. I Play and sing Bluegrass (5-string Banjo/Autoharp/Guitar/human throat), and enjoy the other folks here in the Dallas area that I play, and sing it With (and for). Right now I'm with the "Cedar Junction" band (see facebook).

Bluegrass is all about the music, and not about the "music business".

One sentence you'll NEVER hear spoken in the English language is: "That's the Banjo Player's Porsche".

I picked country, but I prefer bluegrass or western more also. I love bluegrass, I prefer faster paced bluegrass because I find there is more "depth" to it, plus faster paced bluegrass really lets the banjo shine, and I find the banjo to be the greatest instrument...

I'm trying to learn, key word being "trying". My dad plays it really well, and he is teaching me, but I suffer from some hearing issues and I am sorta tone deaf, so it's a struggle!

I personally love synthesizer music, which was not listed. I also love classical music, I even have an adaptation of Beethoven's beautiful piece to electronic instruments

I hope you don't mind if I share it with you, but these are the kinds of music I prefer. Of course, there are many Christian songs that I also like, old or new, those with a nice tunes, deep words and not a lot of repetition - unfortunately many modern gospel songs lack these qualities.

Genuinely love them all as long as they're good ... If pushed it's mainly reggae, country, (didn't know there was a difference between country, bluegrass and western until recently - I thought they were all country lol), and blues ...

I want to get into world music particularly S.American, (seem to be pipe music), and African as they'd be fairly new to me ...

I'm the same. I like anything at all as long as it's good. I studied music in school and one of my favourite parts of the course was hearing samples of all different kinds of music from around the world and being asked to analyse them. I found that really enjoyable.
