What continent is New Zealand part of?

We're part of Australasia - which i'm not sure if that's a continent or just general region...

Oceania is a continent made up of 4 regions: Australasia, Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia.
Some people regard Australasia as a continent in itself though and as far as I know just leave the rest without a continent to be part of.
As far as I'm aware, and have been taught in school, Oceana is a region. Australia is a contient. Countries like New Zealand and other Pacific Islands are part of Oceana, but I don't think they are part of the Australian contienent.

that's insane, coons in florida are a problem but nowhere like that.
all your boa constrictors in FL will eat your coons.
coons will come up to you on our beaches and take your food, in broad day light. i love when someone shoots them. they carry rabies.

btw boas arent native to florida, we have the copperheads and the coral snakes.

What makes Australia great, is it's Aboriginal people, who were there first, and hardly get any credit, and in my opinion are not treated as good as they should be treated. Also what makes Australia great is it's animal life, which is just absolutely fantastic.

hi Jason,
i saw this documentary on pet boas being dumped in FL and now there is a problem with them. they are worried the food chain might get a little messed up. it said they eat coons and even the crocs.
anyway is that true or is it all hype?

oh and a great thing about Australia - kangaroos, but Nick won't share them. lol

:thumbsup on both.
The Aborignies have been treated extremely badly over the years, and I don't know if you guys have heard of the 'stolen generation'. Between the 1930's and the 1970's (I think) most of the generation of Aboriginie children were literally stolen from their families by the government and forstered out to 'white' familes, so that they could become 'pure' and live a 'better' lifestyle. It was horrible. Read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Generations
We're trying to improve conditions and the drinking problem among Aborignal communties, but it's one of the toughests issues. It's so hard just to form your own stance on the issue, never mind the actual politics of it.

Well to start with Australia has me in it :) thats what makes it great.

I have driven around Australia twice, its full of wonder and great sunsets. The hotest place I have been to was Camooweal on the Queensland Northern Territory boarder, just a little down the road is the place the shot the movie Crocodile Dundee all the building sets were still standing. It was 53 degrees in the shade. The fuel in my car was evaporating in the fuel pump. One hot town, driving at night you could see many spiders and snakes crossing the roads and the kangaroos playing keep up with the car. We stopped in at Fizroy Crossing in the wet season, it was flooded out as usual. So we stopped by the side of the road and had a bath in the running river, when a croc swam pass us, now that will make you wash in a hurry.
The North of Australia is so hot, but once you get use to it its great and it realy has some great sights to see.

The south end of Australia is like driving all over the world in the one place. You have deserts and green lush forests, you feel like you are visiting Germany when you drive around the Hills of Aderlaide and moving into Victoria its like drving around the US. NSW up to Queesnland is great for forests and mountians. Tassy way down south is like London and my home town of Perth Western Australia is just great. Beaches up the north end are the best in the world, the beaches down south have some of the bigest waves to surf on. I love Perth becuase it does it for me, I have lived in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Brisbane. Tassy was great, just far to cold. Perth was easy going not so much a rat race like Melb, Sydney and Brissy
Once it was a good deal to live in Perth, but all the other from over the other side came over and forced up all the prices.

if you get a chance come see Perth, it great value.

That's a pretty good description, I reckon. I'm a real city person though, and love the 'fast-paced' Sydney, althoug Melbourne is pretty good as well.

I think a lot of outsiders who haven't been to Australia just think it's one massive desert. How wrong. Sure, in parts it's 53 degrees in the shade, but we've got alpine regions, snowy mountains, forests, esturine wetlands etc. It's very diverse.

Before Australia joined the Asian Football Confederation, they played in the Oceanian Nations Cup though. This is getting confusing. :confused

Oceiana is a region, like the Asia-Pacific region. Australia, apart from being a country, the world's biggest island, is also the world's smallest continent.

SHOULD NEW ZEALAND BECOME AN AUSTRALIAN STATE?

They're actually discussing this on a New Zealand news site.

The debate rages on!

New Zealand fears that they won't be able to straighten Australia out.

Since their laws are virtually identical, New Zealand would not have to be afraid of being mistreated by a larger population.

Their armed forces are closely united, and an attack on one is an attack on both.

Eventually, laws would be passed that NZ didn't like, and they would resent being ruled by people who are far away.

A recent poll conducted for Television New Zealand's Question and Answer program on Sunday found that 37 per cent of New Zealanders thought the country would be better off merging with Australia, 27 per cent said no and 25 per cent felt it would make no difference.

Well as an Australian I would say go for the merge - the courties are almost identical anyway. I can't say it's on a priority list, but perhaps it may happen within the next 50-80 years. You never know.

Here's a satirical video off an Australian TV show, the Gruen Transfer. In this segment, two adveritising agencies compete to win a trophy by advertising the subject of the week the best. This was one of the entries to the "make invading New Zealand seem like an attractive option to the Australian public". It plays off an almost identical add for New Zealand, about that it's 100% naturally pure etc.
