You are at a stoplight. A man approaches you and tells you to get out. He has a large knife , a crazed look , and he wants your vehicle. You can tell it wouldn't bother him to carve you up good to get it either.

What would you do?

As he's approaching me with a large knife I wouldn't even give him time to say anything.

I would stomp the gas pedal to the floor, run the red light and then do a U-turn and run the red light again and try to run him over without killing him. Call the police and have him arrested.

Seriously... If the knife is at my throat, and he doesn't take it way for me to hit the gas, I'm no Jason Bourne. The car's his! But, if it's not in position to kill or seriously wound me, I'm hitting the gas and taking my chances!

It’s just a car. I’m insured. Have the car if you are so adamant – the insurance will pay out. I have a little girl at home. I’ll throw in my handbag and credit cards if I can see her again.
I know I might have a different outlook on things, but my life is not worth a car.

Considering that when I drive my windows are up and doors locked, I don't think the knife would scare me into giving him the car. If he had a gun, I can't say that I would know what to do. I think my instinct would be to hit the gas, kinda in a flinch/ knee jerk reaction sort of way.

I dunno. I watched that truck driver that got pulled out of his truck at the start of the Los Angeles riots get seriously beaten for doing absolutely nothing. Being a Christian doesn't mean we have to be doormats. My truck is not only my living, but many times I have several thousands of dollars in customer's cash in it that isn't mine to lose. I'll go with hitting the gas if I can do it (if no other cars are blocking me.) If I can't get away then I'll do what I have to in order to stop the guy. Not a good idea to bring a knife to a... well, nevermind.

Oh, and if he had a gun, I'd turn toward whatever side of the truck he was on and hit the gas (assuming no one else is in the way). It's actually harder to shoot a close moving target than a far one. If I hit him fine, but even if not, by the time he gets his balance and aim back, I'll be to far enough away for safety. If there are others in the way, well, at least I didn't bring a knife to a...

Let's change it up a bit.

Same scenario. For all intents and purposes, your windows are down and you didn't see him until the last second. Now, you have two small children in the back strapped in that the bad guy doesn't see or doesn't care. He wants to get the car and sell it for some smack! Now what will you do?

I’m South African, so naturally I have a gun. I’ll blow his brain out. I guess any mother will react that way? We had numerous situations like the above. It hardly ever turns out ‘okay’. As a matter of fact – I can’t recall a single instance where the children were recovered unharmed.

That's what I would expect any reasonable, christian mother to do.

i would give him money for this smack of which you speak...


or i would be helpless and let God control the situation. He is always in control

When Jesus said turn the other cheek, He was talking about NOT being vengeful or spiteful. He wasn't talking about leaving the wicked free to do whatever they want. Our Lord Jesus was NOT a pacifist - we know that He resorted to physical violence at least once in His earthly life. Did he not tell his disciples to go and buy a sword?

Sounds like the scenario when I had to drive from N.Y. airport to Newark airport.There was this one stop light just before the G.W. bridge, where you count the seconds for the light to change bc you are in the worst parts of town.
Anyhoo, since I had a rented car & was not in my home state - & was alone to boot- I had no pistol nor even the bat or tire iron my older brother showed me he carried when he lived in the no gun state of N.Y.
Minded my surroundings- but would run the perp down if I could.(said a 1-minute prayer) It all depends on how close that knife was. There's not much doctors can do for bad scars so just keep the car insured & let it go.
