Growth Whatever He says, you Do!

Very dangerous idea to follow. If He told you to kill a baby, you'd have to do it. If he told you to walk off a bridge into a river, you'd have to do it. Your born into a kind of celestial straightjacket.

If I thought God was telling me to do something that is contrary to the written word, the Bible, I would have to seek guidance from other Christians. I don't believe He tells us to do anything against what Jesus and the Apostles have said.
Jesus tells us to love others as we love ourselves.
You know the golden rule, treat others like you want to be treated.

Abraham trusted God when he was told to sacrifice his son Isaac. Jonah eventually trusted God and went to Nineveh...when he had no other choice. God's way I not man's way and I have infinite trust in His love and mercy.

So do I trust God, but am I going to trust me.
Abraham and Jonah didn't have the written word of God and I'll about bet that when He speaks to me it is not the same way He spoke to them. Audibly "THOU SHALL GO".

There have been two times ever that I am absolutely sure God spoke to me.
The rest of the time, just in a still small voice in my thoughts.

The Bible says to "Test the Spirits." 1 John 4:1. Would the Lord tell you to kill a baby or walk off a bridge? No that kind of thing isn't from the Lord. I am not in a celestial straight jacket. I am so free because I serve Him. That is life at it's most abundant not a straight jacket.

Still doesn't change the fact that if your denomination of God told you to, you'd have to obey, right? I take it you believe in the Christian definition of God. Doesn't he talk to people, intervene in the physical universe, etc?

I think most of the time God speaks to us in a still small voice.

BTW, I like that you allude to Elijah as often as you do.

I don't have a denomination that I adhere to. But I have friends and family and other brothers/sisters of like minded people that I trust wouldn't let me go off the deep end, as I believe some people have.
When I say like-minded, this means they are sincere in their devotion to the Lord. They service Him with the best intentions. None of us as people, are perfect or know all the truth of God so we sometimes have to seek out counsel from others after we have first talked it over with the Lord and searched His word with due diligence.

Before I reply, I'd just like to clarify - are you a Christian, Deborah? By denomination I meant which God you believed in / worship.

Yes, I am a part of the Church, the Body of Christ, we're called Christians.

I was thinking you were asking like Baptist, etc.

No, I absolutely would not obey them unless it was Biblical. So many denominations are screwed up and don't even follow Christ anymore. I am a Christian, a Christ follower, not a denomination follower. There is a big difference. He does talk to people, but not through a denomination, He speaks individually through the Holy Spirit.

I believe that Deborah believes like I do, in the God of the Bible. That is not a denomination.

I don't know Sandy, I'm probably more of a rebel than you are. But thanks for the compliment. :)
I definitely believe in the God of the Bible, who else is there?
But I'm not much for traditions that I can't see clearly in scripture. So until I do...

I doubt that. You might be as much of a rebel as I am, but I'm pretty rebellious. For me it about Jesus and the Bible, that's it. I don't care is you are the pope or Joel Osteen, if it isn't Biblical, I don't follow it.

9) Do not promote a religion or belief other than Biblical and historical Christianity. (ToS 2.2)
You will not post any messages; links, images or photos promoting another religion. Atheism is considered a "belief" for the purposes of this rule. This is a Christian Forum as the name suggests.

So
If they haven't had a relationship with the only God there is they wouldn't know the difference.

But they also believe they have or have had a relationship with the only God there is. (Gods with an s for the polytheists, that is, those who believe there are many true gods) You believe the Christian God is the only God there is. A muslim believes Allah is the only God there is. The German pagans believed Thor and Odin were the only true Gods.. and the list goes on into the hundreds of thousands.

So what is your point? They can believe in anything including Humpty Dumpty if they want to.
It's not going to change the fact that there is one creator, He has a kingdom, it's His home, His rules to get in. :shrug They will all one day go to the graveyard, just as Thor and Odin have.
