This post is kind of a carry over from the Ramble on thread in which Carol has shared some crazy stuff and I posted about one of the nights that a bat got into our house.
So, the thread is basically, share one of those crazy events in life. Whatever it happens to be.
Where do I begin? There was the Christmas morning the dogs chased a skunk under the house. There was the night my kitty-cat decided to present me with his dinner and dropped a live mouse on the bed I shared with my two sisters. (Lot's of loud screams on that one.) There was the night our dog chased a neighbor's cat into our house and 'treed' it on top of our china cabinet resulting in an inevitable crash. There was the time my mom tried to shoot a rattlesnake and wound up shooting the water main to our house with "Old Faithful" results. There was the time that our cow managed to push open the back door and when we got home from town, the cow and lots of chickens were running around the house. (That wasn't as crazy as it was smelly!)
But, I think the one I'll share here is the other time a bat got into our house. When I about 10 or so, our favorite night of TV was Friday Night Fright Night which showed a lot of cheesy movies, especially movies about Dracula. You know, the ones where Peter Cushing chased Christopher Lee around armed with wooden stakes and crosses. Well, at the time, my sisters and I shared a room where, when the door was open, you could see our living room couch. One night, after scaring ourselves watching spooky movies, my one sister and I were in bed. My oldest sister had gone out, but had came home and was sitting on our couch watching TV. That's when we saw it; a bat hovering right over our dear sister's head. We just knew it was going to turn into a vampire and drink her blood! So, what does any young girl do when faced with the undead stalking her sister? Scream bloody murder of course. We started screaming and crying and my sister, probably because Birda and I were so worked up, started screaming and the bat started trying to find a way out of there. So, there we were, 3 girls screaming our heads off, and bat zooming around overhead when my mom and dad came out to find out what the racket was about. The poor little bat flew off into the kitchen and then wound up flying into the bathroom. We all ran after it, except for Birda, who ran back into the bedroom. My dad was like, "Debi, it's just a bat, go into the bathroom and open the window" and Debi was like "No way, un-hun, not on your life am I going in there" and mom was like "Deborah you do as your father says" when Birda came running back, armed with a Bible and a cross necklace, which I thought was terribly brave and smart of her. But, Mom and Dad saw it differently. Dad really lost it and started yelling and I think it was mom who wound up opening up the bathroom window, through which the little bat promptly flew out. We were grounded from watching Friday Night Fright shows for quite some time after that.
It was just another one of those things that seemed to happen in my family a lot. Now, I'm sure my family is just as normal as everyone else's, so share a crazy story yourself. About anything, any thing at all....
