What's Wrong With The NIV Bible ?

There's nothing necessarily wrong with the NIV but you do need to understand that it is not as accurate to the original Word of God due to the way it was translated. The NIV is a "thought for thought" translation whereas the KJV and NKJV are "word for word". So when you read the NKJV you read the words spoken by God translated to English. When you read the NIV you read what men interpret those words to mean.

Take a look at 1 Cor 7:1

Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. (NKJV)

Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman." (NIV)

Now, concerning the things that you wrote about: It’s good for men not to get married. (God's Word)

So you can see that the NKJV is somewhat vague whereas NIV interprets "touching a woman" to be "sexual relations" and the God's Word translation thinks it means "Getting married"

Therefore, if you want to know what the original inspired words of God say it is best to use a word-for-word translation like the KJV, NKJV, or NASB and then use translations such as NIV to help interpret what the original words mean. Put mostly, you should rely on the Holy Spirit to interpret the word of God.

Never thought or heard it put like that before sounds good to me.

Who is Jesus who is satan.

Jesus is the Bright and Morning Star

satan is son of the morning.

The KJV and the NKJV are consistant in this.

But lets see how the NIV calls satan, Jesus.

NIV
Isaiah 14:12
How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!

NIV
Revelation 22:16

The NIV calls both Jesus and satan the Morning Star. I wonder what kind of occultists use this scripture to indoctrinate their initiates into thinking Jesus and satan are one and the same being?

Again, incorrect. I would encourage you to do some actual study on these things rather than just post from whatever book or site you are copying them from. The two following posts are from here: http://www.christianforums.net/f15/what-wrong-niv-bible-27105/index7.html

Vic C. said:
There is a reason for the morning star reference. It has a lot to do with astronomy and them calling planets, stars, for lack of not knowing about planets. Venus is known as the "morning star". Research the relationship between the king being spoken about in Isaiah 14 and Venus, this morning star.

Note this "star" is really a planet; a counterfeit star. ;)

a morning star

THE morning star. :D

Young's literal Translation Bible says:

12 How hast thou fallen from the heavens, O shining one, son of the dawn! Thou hast been cut down to earth, O weakener of nations.

"Lucifer" is a Latin term carried over from the Vulgate, that means "light-bearing" (both Strong's and Merriam-Webster are in agreement on this). This "morning light-bearer" is Venus and is a metaphor for the king in that passage. It is significant that Isa. 14:12 is the only place in all of Scripture that the word Lucifer is used, at least as a noun.

You say i coppied and pasted these from some website.

1)I made those two posts myself.

You say i am part of the KJO movement.

2)I am not a part of the KJO movement.

People can believe as they will. and apporve what they agree with. Every person can go and look up the passages i quoted and see if i have misquoted anything.

Never thought or heard it put like that before sounds good to me.

Thanks! Just wanted to expand a bit. Word-for-word translations such as KJV, NKJV, and NASB replace each Hebrew or Greek word with an equivalent English word, so that is why they are more accurate than the NIV. When you read KJV, NKJV, or NASB it's almost like reading the originating Greek and Hebrew manuscript.

I like reading the NIV but for deep study of God's word I fall back on NKJV to make sure I'm getting what God said and not necessarily what man thinks it says.

If you are interested in researching the subject more I really enjoyed Gary Zeolla's book, it taught me so much!

1) I suggested that you copied from a website or a book because I have seen these exact arguments before. Maybe you just read them at one point. It's not a big deal. The point is to study things just a little deeper.

2) I don't think I have ever suggested you were a part of the KJVO movement, although your two posts in this thread are based on arguments they make.

You haven't misquoted anything but doing a little digging to see what is actually being said goes a long way in proper understanding. As such, the two "problems" you found with the NIV have turned out to not be problems at all.

What this does point out though is the difficulty when translating from one language to another. No version is word-for-word and has English words added in to keep the reading smooth. Things get lost in translation no matter how accurate one tries to make it. This is why all translations have their difficulties.

Technically, since Greek and Hebrew words can have several definitions, we are always at the mercy of the translators. Not there could be such vast differences that one would say, for example, that murder is okay. But we need to keep in mind that there is always a choosing of definitions by the translators and "what man thinks it says."

My brother Lewis, don't be so harsh on the NIV. Though I might agree that it lacks a few things, It has been very useful to me. When I first got saved, I often found myself rather lost while reading KJV. So the Lord lead me the NIV. Today, I love my KJV and NKJV, but had it not been for the NIV springboard, I would not have the same understanding as I do now.

BTW, you used the the text of the KJV for both the KJV, and NKJV

So i did, thanks for the correction

I am not so harsh on it anymore, it has it's place. I just like to keep the board interesting. There are some things about it that I don't agree with, but hey that is my opinion. People are going to read it regardless as to how I feel. I will use it to clarify certain things, I love using different translations, and I am a big user of the Amplified Bible and I have been for years. But I measure all Bibles by the 1604-1611 KJV.Oh and in case you are wondering about the 1604, the 1611 is the finished product.

Here is something that I ran across.

This is quite a statement, and very misleading. Zondervan has had a rich history of Christian publishing and was purchased by HarperCollins in '88 which happens to be owned by Newscorp which is publicly held. Murdock doesn't own News Corp, but he is the CEO. Fact is, News Corp is the among the largest media corporations with tentacles everywhere. My guess is that they have very little to do with Zondervan and allow them to operate independently. In the publishing industry, likely most Christian companies have some ties to parent companies who have questionable ties themselves. It's probably a small world when it comes to the publishing industry. Zondervan published C.S. Lewis' books. Is C.S. Lewis connected to porn?

I'd call this statement a bit reckless.

Beat me to the punch. Here is a quote from Drew (hope he doesn't mind :) ):

"In any event, I think the proper way to discuss this issue is to address technical matters of translation and not make arguments how the company that sells the NIV also sells the Satanic Bible. I suspect that the paper used in many Bible translations comes from the same paper company who sells to pornographers. But that is hardly an argument to impugn those Bible translations. "

Also from the old thread I linked to earlier.
