Bible Study Where you say?

No nobility, but seating is not always random. At weddings, the bride and groom are often given the place of honor, with immediate family seated near them.

At corporate meetings, the CEO will often sit at the place of honor, and subordinates will be ranked around him. Power matters in the USA.
In,any culture,even in Japan.

This is a pretty good etiquette question. It'll be interesting to see the different responses. Ok to answer the question first, as you describe it....I would prolly just stand until told to be seated, just out of respect and I believe humbleness would not allow it to simply take a seat. I'm presuming that this is some sort of black tie event because of the tone set forth.

I've given this sort of thing a little thought before, and if John the Baptist was already seated but most others or Jesus had not yet, then I guess it's a reasonable assumption that He would sit at John the Baptists side at the head. So the thing to do would be to have a seat at the far side of the table on the side if bidden to just have a seat anywhere...so, to the far side because what makes me think that I would be seen honorable enough to go sit with John and Jesus?! So that's why I said I'd stand until told to be seated. Being able to be seated at the same table as our Lord Jesus, anywhere at the table would be a huge honor!

It is good to think on these things, and I hardly ever see people making an effort to have class or etiquette. Most people don't even know how to be a good listener! When one arrives somewhere and you walk into the room and the music is playing, and no one is talking....don't talk, listen. Wait until the piece is over and then talk. It's just polite thing to do. My dad taught me lots of little things like this, bless him! And you know what else? Scripture talks about this very subject. It's in Luke, I'll look it up...

It's in Luke 14.

I've actually called people on the not being a good listener and remaining quiet when you enter and they're listening to music, have some class buddy! I got mocked for it!, and that's ok because his dad just didn't know these things.

I don't know it all, lol. I was over 50 years old already before I ever even heard of a White tie event! I thought Black tie was the best, not so! White tie is. I would think that an event that the Lord is hosting would be White tie?
I would think any event hosted by our Lord would be a white robe event.......but seriously, I never knew there was such a thing as a white tie event. Yikes. I can only imagine how unprepared/inadequate/self conscious/inferior I would feel at a white tie affair.......so a dinner in company with our very God.........like yeah......like someone else said.....I Can Only Imagine.

“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Mathew 11:11 NKJV

I'm not sure. Greater than those born of women, lesser than anyone in the kingdom of heaven. Seated where by this?
This is where I'm going with this, which is our understanding of Matt 11:11. I don't think the current accepted understanding of that verse is what Jesus intended.

Christ would be seated at the head of the table making no difference which end it would be as He knows the end from the beginning. John would be sitting at the furthest side as he said he must decrease and Christ increase, John 3:30.

I would want to sit next to Jesus so I could drink in everything He had to say. It's like that of Mary in Luke 10:38-42 as Martha busied herself, but her sister Mary sat at the feet of Jesus as she couldn't tear herself away from Him.
Yes. Which ever end our Lord chooses instantly becomes the head of the table, but John has taken his seat and we are instructed to take ours. So which end will Christ sit? We have been scripturally instructed to seat ourselves at the lesser end. With John already seated, which end is which?

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 NKJV

John first among those born of women. Kingdom of heaven consists of born again?

“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Mathew 11:11 NKJV

John murdered before Jesus took administrative control over the Kingdom. He was certainly murdered before Pentecost. Does this preclude all the prophets from the Kingdom?

Oh ok, I get it. A statement in scripture about John being least in the Kingdom of heaven. So, would Jesus sit at the other end of the table from John?! Jesus still sits by John I would think. Scripture also says the last will be first and the first last so John's status there would still be high.

OK, I have been rethinking this going back and pondering the OP and came up with the parable written in Luke 14.

I see this as being the banquet table of Christ in heaven. John the Baptist being an invited guest to the banquet is seated near one end, but not sitting at the end of the table being that he deceased (sacrificed all) in order for Christ to increase so I see John sitting at the far end of where Christ is seated at whichever end of the table that would make up the head of the table. Looking at this being the banquet table of Christ who would be the host He is seated at the other end of the table away from John.

This phrase came to mind, The first shall be last and the last shall be first. This refers to the fact that one's wealth in this life does not give them an advantage in gaining eternal life or salvation unless they truly commit to Christ and repent of their sins as they can not buy or work their way into heaven. This is he parable of the rich man in Matthew 19:16-30.

Those who are poor and insignificant in this life gain eternal life by faith as they sacrifce even the little they have, if anything at all, in order to pick up their cross and follow Christ and they who sacrifice all for the sake of Christ their rewards will be greater in heaven. Other words it's the meek who will inherit the kingdom of God and have the choice seats at the banquet table wherever they want to sit while Christ will always sit at the head of the table as He is the head of the body. If we can sit anywhere we choose I want to sit on either side of Christ in adoration for Him.

Now, here is something to think about that hasn't been mentioned, who is going to sit at the opposite end of the table in that empty seat? I would have to say God.

You know? I never really thought about who would be seated all the way at the "foot?" of the table. I wouldn't want to sit there. So embarrassing. With my luck, Jesus would ask me to pass the salt as well.
