I was hoping that you'd be joining us IMO, a crucial investigation on one of your quotes...."when we love God and keep His commandments." What I'm looking for is, which commands are we to keep, other that to love God and each other?
- “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
- ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
The commandments he is referring to are given in context, in the first two verses of 1 John 5.
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 1 John 5:1-2
You shall love the Lord your God.
- everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.
‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
- By this we know that we love the children of God
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15
