Who Are The Vets ?

Where? It does not say it by your name.
I am talking the military' what are you talking about. And if you are talking about being a vet here' I have been here since August 2005. But I am asking about military vets.

I can legally wear two Combat Unit Patches but the only on tattooed on my left shoulder is the First Cavalry and the Walnut Plaque I hold dear is from the 229th Avn Bn, 1st
Cav. I did my last 6 months holed up in Siagon with only three rocket attacks and thought I was in Hawaii. After being just south of the DMZ and working the Iron Triangle with the tunnels running all up underneath us with 122mm rockets at least 3 times a week I thought the 120th AVN was a gravy tour.

My dad joined the day after Pearl and in the 2nd of the 7th he fought the Pacific through 2 years of occupation. He then seperated and re-upped with the new Air Force, serving in Korea. And, boy, was he mad at me when I volunteered to serve in Vietnam, servicing the same Cav unit he served in, the 2nd of the 7th, aka Custer's Cavalry.

For those that don't know, We Were Soldiers Once is the movie about LZ Xray, the Grunts were the 2nd of the 7th and snake, the Major and his Peter Pilot were Black Bandits, A Co, 229th, always on station with the Killer Spades and the Tiger Birds, our guns. Between Snake and Ed Freeman, the Peter Pilot that night, A & B Cos. learned how to support Custer's unit that night. The last I heard from a man serving, a year or two ago, the Spades, B Co. were permanently attached to the 2nd of the 7th today.

From the Cavalry, I learned how to live a successful life with a heart for my fellow humans. It made my dad drunk but when he passed, he was not ashamed of me and you cannot ask much more than that.

And you mothers of Warriors, we will, likely, never know the battles you have fought but you are a veteran if your sons were ever in that horrible mess.

Respect to people who serve to protect, but its a shame it has to be that way. Would be a lot cooler if humanity just got along and stopped acting so retarded. War, war, war, fight, fight, fight. Brother against brother. Kingdom against kingdom. Whatever. It never ends.
I am a Veteran, but I agree with you completely. I actually got saved while I was in the military. I only had a couple of months left when another airman invited me to church and I was saved that night. Fortunately, the job I did never required me to have a gun. I never touched a gun while I was in the military. We draw lines in the sand and then we fight to protect them. It will end when Jesus returns.

Dan,
It would be nice if we could live in a make believe world but that world does not exist. To not work at living in the real world is to abandon all reason, love and care. i.e. I joined the Army because I wanted two things; I wanted to fly and I wanted a career.

I quit in disgust because people are dreamers and refuse reality. The first reality of Vietnam was that the little people of S. Vietnam is they deserved and still deserve freedom. The next reality of Vietnam is they were and they are not Americans. The Hippies got stoned and took over the American Political Machine and destroyed the will of the people to do good.

The most important reality is that all war is evil and it is tough to defeat and the sad truth is that war is soon coming here and my people have not the heart to resist it. When the Islamics rise up, and they will, we, the nation, will forgive and relent and they will murder people like Allen and myself without resistance other that the small arms we have on site.

People tend to call real Veterans, those that put their bacon on the line, War Mongers but such is not the case at all. In 'Nam we had a class of people known as Saigon Warriors that had their nice cosy steel bunks, hot Coffee all day long and access to Ladies of the Night any time they had the money. Although any time I run into anyone from the 2nd of the 7th they give me a loud Gary Owen greeting, I still do not consider myself to e a veteran of their quality.

They saw us take B-40s, crash and burn and they think we were nuts but they had no bed and no cot to sleep on and when it rained, no matter how they covered, they got drowned while I sat on the runway wishing I could help them.

There are classes of veterans and people do not understand that truth. Everyone that was in the service when any war is ongoing is classed, a veteran and many of these never heard an angry shot fired because they never departed the US. Then there are Combat Veterans and there are classes of Vets inside that group. We all wear National Defence awards and Campaign Ribbons. Then there are those that wear Federal Class Ribbons and I place two classes there, only because I wear one of those awards. The one I wear I earned 11 times over according to my Flight Records but it is the lowest in ranking. So there is a large group of Vietnam Vets. that wear the Air Medal and then there are the real Heroes, the men that put it all on the line for their fellow human beings.

Ed Freeman and Snake were wounded 5 and 7 times the night of the LZ Xray Battle and shot down 4 times, they both were awarded the Medal of Honor. Men like these are special and there are to few of them in the world.

Ok, through with the rant. God bless.
