Who are today's Jews

This is a simple question. Who are the true Jews? A little tougher question, what does it take for Israel to accept a person as a Jew? Is it faith based and/or blood?

I have heard there is criteria that they use.

The primary reason I ask these questions is that I have a friend who all of a sudden claimed he is Jewish back in 2004. He says that his grandmother was a Jew who grew up in Sweden and moved to the USA.

well then lets ask which jew is of the so called futurist promises

a jew is:

a person whose mother is jewish according the orthodox
any person whose parent is jewish in consertive.

any person whom practice the judaism of which has four demonations
ultraorthodox,orthodox, reformed, consertive, and reconstructnist.

I would think a true "Jew" would have to be a descendant from the Southern Kingdom of Judah, which, of course excludes anyone who was part of the Northern Kingdom of Isreal.

it doesnt. rachab where was she from? jericho? what about ruth?moab. and yet these gentiles are in the line of david and jesus. hmmm

Does one have to have proof other than their word regarding family members?

hmm thats a statement of ignorance.

lineages are very important to jews. when i was a kid i didnt care much for those stories of a cranman doing this or that. now i do and most of what my dad and grandpa have said has been verified with pics and also by other cranmans.in essence its an oral tradition.

It is ignorance to some degree. My friend claims he learned of his 'Jewish ness' when he was 25 . He did not reveal it to the world until he was nearly 50. ,He has a love for Israel as a Christian. I am wondering if his jewishness is genuine or imagined?
