Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

Who is God?

God is our Father, and Christ has called us Brethren, and in Christ is no male or female, so we are sisters to God too, and we even love our ENEMIES - the CHRISTOPHOBICS, who should feel GUILT for their DISCRIMINATION - there should be a "CHRIST TOO" movement to heap guilt upon these perfidious evil-doers !!

Thanksgiving!!

One holiday that should be free from the DEMONIZING that accompany a Halloween and Christmas!!

But, oh, well, having said that I now await threads on the pagan origins of Thanksgiving - sympathy for cruelly-slaughtered Turkeys, and whatever.

Due to the fact that I don't want to get too off topic with this I'm still going to relate it. It is my belief that some animals were intended by God to be eaten. I'm sure a lot of these people that you are referring to would complain about eating a cheeseburger as well. :rolleyes

Hannah Hurnard, who wrote HINDS FEET IN HIGH PLACES, later in life went off deep end about animals, saying it was a sin to have leather belts and shoes...

Me, I see God getting more and more lenient about what we can eat - first, just plants, then, animals too, as long as cloven hooves and chewing cud, fish with fins and stuff, then anything as long as it wasn't sacrificed to idols, then Paul said "idols don't exist, eat whatever is sold in the shambles".

See y'all at the shambles!!

I LIKE the Hannah Hurnard books, except for the late turn against meat-eating - HINDS FEET, Mountain of Spices, Hearing Heart - good stuff.

Even John the Baptist killed animals for his clothes, leather belt and camel-skin tunic ? And slaughtered all those locusts, shame on him!

I heard there were various species of locusts, some kosher, some not.

One TV show had John the Baptist going through a basket of locusts, eating some and tossing away others.

He cooked the locust in ghee before eating them. It's considered a delicacy. A cultural dish from the ancient Near East. I've never had it. I just happen to know of it.

Camel hair makes a yarn woven into cloth. LOL...it was tan colored.

In as little words as possible, when you think of God, who is He to you?

In the same way, who is Jesus to you?
God is my creator, I am His creation. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the One who feeds, clothes and shelters me. He has my life in His hands. He is my covenant Father. Jesus is my savior. My Good Shepherd who leads in paths of righteousness and keeps watch over me. I am sheep of His flock.

I think Jesus was trying to explain to people that God is within them and he does not dwell somewhere in the cosmos. That would be seperation from God. Jesus left then blew the Holy Spirit. The kingdom of God dwells within you. Seek and you shall find.

Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods” If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came, and Scripture cannot be set aside....

And the psalm one saying you are god's children of the Most High.

The kingdom of God is within you. Do you not know you are the temple. God does not dwell in temples made by human hands. Made in the image of god. The right to sit on my throne as I sit on my Father's throne.

How many more does it take for people to understand. All the good people do is from the Spirit of God within them. The light of life. All religions point to the same thing about good works because that's God. They just haven't figured it out and its the closest they can get to the truth. The last place people look for truth is in the mirror. They trying to find God on the outside like he's some dude who lives in outta space. Praying towards some building or city or praying why looking into the sky when God is within them.

That's why my answer in this thread is God is the good within me. When I'm a bit crooked that's the crooked one. Only Jesus was purely sinless. Even Mohammud agreed, even the devil's tremble and believe.

How can God be a male when God is spirit. The science does not add up. It's only the material makeup that makes someone either male or female as they are being created.

Jesus was a man in the flesh on earth but God is Spirit.

I think the words He in scripture referring to God is about Jesus in the flesh.

The Father is a Spirit, God does not have manly bits or a man's DNA and testosterone.

Just my opinion. I just cannot see how God can be something that is material made.

God is not an image but we are brianwashed to make him into an image. Made in our image.

We are made in God's spiritual image.

Yeah but we call Him father and either use the pronoun He or Him.

The word Father in Hebrew pronoun can mean parent, master, chief, reverend.
He just means Chief Master.

הוֹרֶה
parent, father
אָב
father, master, parent, Av, chief, reverend

We have many anthropomorphic portrayals of God:

He has bared His holy arm in the sight of the heathen, blows back seas by the breath of His nostrils, the mouth of Yahweh hath spoken it, the eyes of the Lord run over the whole earth, and Jesus sat down at His right hand.

But we know God doesn't physically have a right hand, arm, nostrils, mouth or eyes like ours.

Metaphors. Anthropological Metaphors.
