Who was Jesus addressing the Sermon on the Mount to?

Now I'm more confused. What is the dispute between you? I'm not getting it I guess.
what dispute ? are we not allowed to disagree in in interpretation of scripture .. my whole point was to be of the kingdom you had be born again.. as per the o.p who was Jesus addressing the jews i would guess. but i find all the Bible written for us all . i am just trying clarify with him... to be honest the forum is not near as active as it use to be ..there was a time when something of this nature would go 5 pages easy . today a reply is made and its like a hot coal never touched. i like a heavy discussion as long as it does not go to name calling

bingo so even though the words the Body of CHRIST which has many members was never used in the o.t the body of Christ was still there

I agree.

There’s good deer hunting there.:thumbsup

I don’t know about pigs though.

Monster Whitetail you say? What's that mean, 200 pounds on the hoof, lol! The "average" mule deer is bigger than that...in Colorado. I've never hunted big game in Ohio before. IFrom what I hear, they've eased up on hunting restrictions. It used to be no rifles only shotguns! Now any straight walled cartridge can be used here...and that means 45/70 is a ok. I don't think there's a better deer rifle than a 45/70 lever action. I took two mule deer in Colorado with a Marlin 1895G. Set up with peep sights and a happy trigger kit from Wild West guns in Anchorage AK. Ohh but that was one sweet setup. That rifle was so light and handy and compact, and delivers a ferocious amount of penetration and stopping power.

I got about 185 LBS of meat from this deer. The next day I shot a 4 pt buck that was bigger than her. See that military sling on my 45/70?! It's a great sling. I bought that stock mounted ammo carrier for it but loved it for the cheekpad. Hunting isn't a problem but at the range that thing will make hamburger out of a guys cheek if you shoot it too much without a cheekpad! I put a large loop lever on it too so I could wear gloves, but it was the wrong one, it was too big.

I think this wouod be a good state to handgun hunt in. I have never taken a deer with a handgun, but know I could!

Yeah, there's pigs here. Now I remember the hunt stories from my buddy with his bow & arrows. He got a pig before, maybe more? Lol.

Click here for stained glass image of Christ, sermon on the mount. Created by Louis Comfort Tiffany in a stained glass window at Arlington Street Church in Boston

There is also what is called , the sermon on the plain. Accounted in Luke 6 and that contains much of what is found in the sermon on the mount in Matthew.
If I understand the question, I think the sermon is being directed at what we'd call laity today. As well as what would be known in these centuries as the pastoral leaders of churches.

:mouthdrop:lol the forum will crash

I’m glad we could find some common ground.

Maybe we should start a thread about this
Subject. There seems to be a need for a balance of understanding about some of the points we discussed.

I don’t think everyone is satisfied that the Church began with Abraham, however I hope we can all agree that Abraham walk out n covenant with our Lord.

Jesus founded the Church.

Abraham was the first member.

Ok. I will when I get back from Florida.

Down here for my sons wedding.

Working from my phone is challenging enough just answering posts.

Hopefully we can have several people join in and share their perspective.

I don’t blame you I’m the same way.

I spent many years studying for myself rather than jumping on the latest bandwagon that mostly teaches what people’s itching ears want to hear.

It made me change and repent and be delivered and restored in many ways.

Still changing and growing everyday.

To God be the glory.

Maybe I'm not getting it but I'm wondering why this thread matters. Scriptures seem to indicate that He was addressing His disciples. We don't know how many disciples that was at that time nor do we know for sure if any of the other members in the crowd could hear Him or not. The question that comes to my mind is, if He was speaking just to His disciples, does that mean His words as far as we are concerned are nothing but hot air and have no meaning to us at all? I'm afraid I can't accept that and I hope that I listen with attentive ear when I am reading His words wherever they are found.

Just my :twocents

Revelation
Why did not Jesus dictate His words to be written down by the disciples as He spoke them?
Because they needed to be seen in the context of the cross, forgiveness, the resurrection and through the Holy Spirit. Without this the meanings would be wrong, the emphasis wrong, and be too exact, rather than interpretative.
Jesus believed and knew the Kingdom would grow, love would mold and transform society and give insights in to people. In each society aspects had to be seen in their context, with their balances and knowledge of what is possible and what is illusion.

So a phrase, your righteousness must be greater than the pharisees, has great power if you know their emotional and life style hypocracy, while appearing to live a righteous life. If you are a legalist, it is saying give up the rules they do not matter at all, which is just wrong, but until love comes into ones heart all is lost.

I have discussed with ex-legalists that they only see it is a sarcastic comment on trying to be righteous, not a criticism of the power of the slavery to sin, and testifying to the power of love through Christ to bring victory. So reading the description, Jesus is saying, rather than gaining glory by praying in public, in the closed room, the waters of life and love will change you as you commune with the King of Kings. Rather than sexual desire ruling ones life with a promise of intimacy, you can have this intimacy and love by dwelling in the Spirit and singing praises to Him.

So true bro.

Amen.

When I filled with His Spirit, my sensual desires are deadened and subdued.

This is the purpose of mankind..,

Be fruitful and multiply, subdue and have dominion over the earth.

First I must subdue and have dominion over my earth, my flesh, my physical body and the sin that desires to rule my verse me and make me it’s slave.

  • if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:13-14

again

16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Romans 6:16
