I cannot prove it was Mike McIntosh (founder of Horizon Christian Fellowship San Diego, Ca), but I strongly believe he is the one being spoken of here:
In the 1970's at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, Ca during a worship service a man whose mind had been burned out on drugs and lost his home his family and his health came into the sanctuary as Pastor Chuck Smith preached. His disheveled and filthy attire got noticed at once. Not knowing what to do only feeling led to come to the Church for answers the man walked in and down the center aisle. Near the front he sat cross legged on the floor. An usher rose at once and to the surprise of many there, he sat down next to the man for the remainder of the service as Pastor Chuck kept right on preaching without missing a beat. The man was saved that day.
We often loose sight of the fact that the Church service is in effect a spiritual hospital and a spiritual education center for the spiritually ill and uninformed. Taking attention away from the Lord is bad enough, but to take the focus away from the benefit of the sheep (healing and edifying) is even worse... especially in the name of self righteousness. It is my body my right... etc.
