A member of one segment of humanity asks about another segment of humanity,in the presence of same: 'OK, so why did God create these guys? It's not like we asked Him to, right?'
In jest, I suppose it would constitute a regular off-colour joke.
In dead earnest, that question is practically a hate crime.
Whatever the case, ouch. JMHO, of course.
The hate is in the conflate. Sometimes people take things wrong. Things that are said, things that are declared. I know that I do (and strive not to). For instance, we can find places in the Bible where the term "mankind" is better used instead of the personal name "Adam". Yeah, that guy is male. We know that already. We also know that God is Spirit that fills all heaven and all earth (and beyond). The last 'and beyond' is my quote from the well known character, Buzz Lightyear (who is also depicted as 'male' but in fact is a fictional character, unlike our God who is very real and very present, a fact that we are all grateful for especially in times of trouble).
So the whole gender thing is moot when it comes to God because God is Spirit. He breathed life into that dust, that eretz, that part of 'earth' and not only formed mankind but also animated (enlivened?) us. Okay, yes - I know there was a special distinction for the first lady of the earth, Eve, and that she came from the bone and flesh of that dust with life, but that is a very special distinction. The God-breathed life within the dust of the earth exclaimed, "I will call her..." (he was recently introduced to naming others) ... call her
ISHA because out from
ISH came she.
There is a very "strange" sense of "Other" seen in these things. We've 'normalized' them. We've taken the often repeated passages and have desensitized ourselves to the wonder of it all. That wonder and ponder and that surprise and delight and even joy is the highlight we see. It's about similarity.
Also that same wonder of "Other" was seen when the name of the firstborn was given. The one who gave birth also exclaimed, "Out from me!" with eyes wide in wonder and praise and awe of what the Lord was personally showing her too. And that same sense of wonder is found in me. Gender does no longer matter because when we zoom out we see that same miracle and wonder and joy in prophecy. Hosea 2:16 speaks of a "her" that hopefully includes me. What Jesus revealed to John also speaks of a "her" that I hope contains me as well. What is the mystery that Paul spoke of? Who is Jesus? Why do we love to speak of Him so much? Where do we find more to read and learn and be 'allured' by? For we are 'allured' as is promised in Hosea 2:14. This action is described as happening in the wilderness.
So even on our 'wilderness' here on the wild and woolly internet where wild beasts do roam, we are potentially drawn away so that our Lord, our
ISHI (Husband) may speak comfortably to us. So much is my heart stirred by these things.
Blessings to you! The Spirit says, "Come," and the Bride says, "Come." Let those who hear say, "Come." For you, and for yours, know that your God is strong. Be strong. I adjure you, daughter of God. Be strong in the Lord and in his Spirit.
And this isn't JMHO, it is what I try to shout, after listening to the whisper which is known.
"My sheep know my voice." So saith The Christ.
