Why Preach Repentance in Christ's Name ?Lk 24:47

47 Andthat repentance and remission of sins should be preachedin his nameamong all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

The reason why Christ's Servants were to preach repentance among all the Nations, twas because their risen Savior, the Savior of all Israel His People, He gives them Repentance along with remission of sinsActs 5:31

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince anda Saviour, forto give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

This Israel includes GentilesActs 11:18

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hathGod also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Now this repentance given is the result of the regenerating work of the Spirit from out of Christ. Repentance at the Preaching of the Gospel would give evidence of Two things, #1 That Christ is your Savior and has indeed Saved you, and #2 That the Holy Spirit from Christ has also saved you by His Sanctifying Work in you leading to belief of the Truth2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you tosalvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Belief of the Truth and Repentance are the same, which is why Paul writes2 Tim 2:25

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure willgive them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

True Repentance from the Savior Christ will always result in a acknowledgement of the Truth, which is Belief in the Truth !

Why Preach Repentance with the Gospel ?2
As Saviour, its Christ's responsibilityto give repentance unto everyone He died for, Israel the electActs 5:31else He fails as a Saviour. Christ by His death is to bring the elect that He died for unto God1 Pet 3:18

18 For Christ also hath oncesuffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God,being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

You see that ? The outcome of Christ suffering for sins, being put to death in the flesh, is to bring us to God in repentance.

But Christ has not failed as a Saviour, simply because each sinner He died for, He gives them of His Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, which produces in them both Faith and Repentance, out of a New Heart !Ezk 36:26-27

26A new heart also will I give you,and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 AndI will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Thats giving them Repentance as a Saviour should !

Yes - without repentance it is virtually impossible to turn to God. So the Lord has to bring us to a place of repentance!

Sometime I think we make that more difficult than it should be. Repentance means turning from our ways. We like our thinking, because it is our thinking. But it is not as good as God's thinking! We have to come to that realization! It should be obvious, but because we do like our way of thinking, we just don't considered God knowing more than we do!

So usually God has to point out to us the problems with our thinking. Often that means our life comes crashing down. When that happens it puts us in a situation where we do consider that perhaps God (at some point we heard people talk about God) might know better than us. So we decided to seek Him, and all how seek find, so we find Him. Of course some get stubborn and still think their ways are better than God's. That is just pride and pride does not lead to repentance. But if we are smart and finally realize our ways are not getting it done for us, then we seek the Lord and find Him. That is repentance!

God caused us to repent, by letting disaster come on us. He then gives the Spirit of God to those who seek Him. Things get better for us, because we have the Holy Spirit and we are now doing what we should. Then it seems like we fall because we forgot what happened and we go back to leaning on our understanding again. So it happens again, and we die a little more to our flesh and learn to seek the Lord a little more, and we grow as a Christian.

So repentance is simply part of the gospel. If there was anything about the original post that I didn't like it would have been the seeming to make repentance as something to be preached with the gospel. Repentance is really part of the gospel. We could separate them if we wanted to, but I think that was the point of the thread. Nice thread :)

Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.
This is the Gospel that was preached by Jesus Christ.

Repent is the command of the Gospel.

Not repent of your sins.

Repent means to turn to God.

If you are called to turn to God, then by default you are called to turn from Satan as your lord.

The way that your express this obedience of faith, concerning the Gospel is to confess Jesus as Lord.

This is what grants the believer/obeyer of the Gospel, the forgiveness of sins.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

Peter did not say "repent of your sins".

A person can not "stop sinning" without the born again new Nature empowered by the Holy Spirit.

The way we are granted this, is by repenting, which means turning away from Satan and his kingdom, and turning to God, and confessing Jesus as Lord.

This is plainly what the Lord Jesus Christ taught to and commissioned Paul to do.

15 So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ Acts 26:15-18

Repent is about being transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of God.

It's about changing who you serve, as your Lord.

The Gospel of the kingdom is about changing the kingdom your are in, by changing the Lord you serve.
The Gospel is God's call to humanity, to "come out of hiding", in darkness, and to come into the light, the kingdom of light.

Repentance says you are open to a new way. The Gospel proclaims the new Way.
Jhn 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

No one has addressed the points made in the Op.

Well, since "repent" actually means "to change your mind". It is totally necessary to change your mind about what you thought would redeem you previously, and now decide that it is only belief in Jesus Christ that will do that.

I've always liked this definition from...

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Not repent of your sins.
To turn to God is to repent of your sins (which not only includes the sin of unbelief, but ALL sins and idols). That is the proper biblical concept of repents -- to TURN from evil and TURN to God.

Well it is only when sinners turn to the Savior that He gives them a new heart, a new spirit, a new birth, and a new direction and purpose, through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost...Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 2:38; 3:19).

In the context of the Gospel, repent means to turn from Satan as your lord [master], the one you obey, to Jesus as Lord.

That's why confessing Jesus as Lord is the key to salvation... with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10

You are changing lord's, and by changing the lord whom you served, to Jesus as your Lord, you are translated out of the dominion of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God, with Jesus as Lord and King, your new Master, the One whom you are to obey.

In all honesty, a person really can't comprehend what evil is, much less have the capacity to turn from it, until they have a new nature.

It is by turning from Satan, and confessing Jesus as Lord, we are forgiven of our [past] sins, and are now citizens of the kingdom of God, and are to obey our new King.

Again: The way we are forgiven our sins, is by repenting, ie; turning from Satan to God. Turning from darkness to light.

16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
Acts 26:16-18

... in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins.

There's no scripture that says that.

Christ as Saviour gives repentance to them He is a Saviour to Acts 5:31

Mans heart by nature is unrepentant Rom 2:5.

Those in the flesh can't please God Rom 8:8. All men by nature are in the flesh.

What's your point?

I wasn't quite sure what points the OP was making. I wasn't even sure if it was a question or a statement.
If that is the case then why post in response it? In order to discuss something you should understand what you're reading. That's why I always ask posters did they understand the points made in the Op.

I just stated it.

Mans heart by nature is unrepentant Rom 2:5.

Those that obey the Gospel by repenting, will be saved... if they continue in the faith and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel.

21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. Colossians 1:21-23

Those in the flesh can't please God Rom 8:8. All men by nature are in the flesh.

8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:8-13
