Why would Christ refer to this Gentile woman as "a dog?" Part 1

Matt. 15:21-28
"Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour."

The apostles did not recognize that not only did this Gentile woman receive healing for her daughter, but she was saved by Grace through faith at that very moment!

The Jews referred to anyone who was not another Jew (Gentiles) as dogs, they believed they were the only ones God would accept, in other words, they were the only ones who would be saved! Christ confirmed that in Matt. 15:26. He also said that He had only come for the "lost sheep of Israel." So at this point, we the Gentiles are left out, so it seems to the Jews. But later "the mystery of the Ages" would be revealed to all mankind, that God has granted salvation to the Gentiles also!

Of course, God had salvation in mind for the Gentiles from the very beginning, but He kept it from the Jews, His chosen.

In case you are not aware, the nation of Israel today believes that all Gentiles are dogs, and they only are accepted of God! But we are not to shun Israel because of this! As Paul said, "all of Israel will be saved," and they will be our Brothers and Sisters in Christ in the future. Even though today "they are the enemies of the Cross" as Paul also said.

So what does all of this mean? Coming up in Part 2.

I never ask "bait questions." I ask it in order to answer it.

That' what I intend to do, show why He did it!

:) I have no problem with people presenting their position on an issue, only when you present a thread in the form of a question it suggests you want answers from others when in reality you were not asking for one. Most people would regard that as baiting.

Not a big deal. As you were.:salute

I usually don't start a thread with a question.

There are some topics that must be placed in the form of a question in order to discuss, it sets the stage for the discussion. The point of this thread is why did this happen, for what reason did He do this."

This is one of those threads.

Simple answer... He never did.
Jesus never called her a dog... He used an example from life that she could instantly relate to.

I don't want to give away part 2 of this thread before I write it. So I'll put it this way.

"Dog" is referring to those unaccepted by God. For example:

Phil. 3:2
"Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision."
These "dogs" are the unaccepted of God.
Matt. 7:6
"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."
Again, the unaccepted of God.
Rev. 22:15
"For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie."

Again, the same.

The Gentiles were unacceptable to God, and in Part 2 I will show you why!

In this case all those verses would not apply.
Sorry.
Do better.

OK, don't get upset! I'll explain it all in Part 2. But now there could be a Part 3, don't know yet.
It is simple your entire premise is incorrect.
Jesus never called her a dog and you know it if you just read the text.
Now if you want to call her a dog then that is on you.

It is what the text says.
You are reading your own ideas into the text.
Are you a Jew? Or are you unacceptable to God?

OK, I honor all opinions, but I may not agree with them!

Tomorrow, you will have the whole picture, then we can see what is what.

Your entire premise is faulty and based on a misreading of the text.
Christ NEVER called the woman a dog.
You may read it that way, but that is your personal view and not the way the text is written.

I think Jesus called her a dog to humble her. Our God is very good at humbling us.

He didn't call her a dog... reread the passage.
He made an allusion to a common situation/event.
Excuse me, but as one human being to another, If I came to you pleading for help for my kid and you said, "It isn't right to give what belongs to children to dogs"...
there is nothing in common with the event.
