Jesus tells us that His followers are not of this world. What are worldly Christians?

Worldly Christians' value system is based on mainly things of this world, like worldly success, try to catch up with the world materially, try to please man instead of God and Jesus. They try to go along with the majority. They are politically correct.

Because of these kind of traits, they are actually working against God. They cannot distinguish between faithful Christians and others. Many times they criticize faithful Christians because they are not like them. Their idea of loving is to not offend anyone; Jesus offended many people. Because they are trying to catch up with the world, they don't have much time to study the Bible and serve God. Because they don't have much time for God and not practicing what Jesus' servants are supposed to be doing, their kids are neglected spiritually and their kids become just like them- worldly. Worldly Christians are bad witnesses for the Lord, because Christians are supposed to be much better citizens than secular people. Jesus says to be salt and light of the world. But in reality, they are not much different from the world.

In a nutshell, worldly Christians are damaging God and Jesus' reputation. Jesus' servants should not give back these kinds of deeds after what Jesus has done for us. Jesus' followers should give up worldly mentalities and values.

James 4:4
You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

John 15:19
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

John 17:14
I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.

1 John 3:13
Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.

Luke 14:33
In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.

Matthew 5:13-14 (New International Version)
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

thank you Jojo :-)

I would like to add some more:

Most of them know the verse "do not judge" and use use it constantly when they feel guilty even though they don't seem to know the verse that Jesus says "Be Holy because I am Holy". They look for church where that make them feel comfortable, and not make them feel guilty.

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY
."

Interesting post.

21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Here we have absolute confirmation that there are MANY that DO in the NAME of Christ that Christ does NOT EVEN KNOW.

Therefore, it is a pretty reasonable assumption that IF HE DOESN'T know THEM, then they don't KNOW HIM.

Blessings,

MEC

Their idea of loving is to not offend anyone; Jesus offended many people.

I just read this post again and I'm glad I did, because I re-read this important statement. As Christians, we are bound to say things that will offend other people. We don't mean to be offensive, but we feel obligated to speak the Biblical truth. And sometimes the truth hurts.

Amen Jojo, :yes

It seems that we are trained not to offend anyone at the expense of Jesus' truth.
