Would you date a ' Liberal' or 'Evangelical ' Christian?

Who Me

Saw this on another forum so have pinched the idea.
What ever you take on Christianity if you are single, or when you were single.
Would you have dated a Christian from another part/side of Christianity.
Example if a staunch Roman Catholic would you have gone out with a committed Calvinist?
Or if a wishy washy liberal would you go out with a fervent evangelical?
If a convinced no tongues etc go out with a fervent speaker in tongues?

How would you deal with the difference in your beliefs?

Imagine that you really, really like this other Christian what would happen?

I would date an R.C., speaker of tongues, and liberal. I would never married one though.
Aside: I am not clear on the definition of liberal, so that might be some leeway there. Is she a rich liberal? :pray
lol what says the Westminster on papists? look up marriage

Chapter 24:3 Yet it is the duty of Christians to marry only in the Lord. And therefore, such as profess the true reformed religion should not marry with infidels, Papists, or other idolaters

Hmmm.... "There are an estimated 1.2 billion Roman Catholics in the world, according to Vatican figures."
.... well, that makes the selection easier.

What we did - I was Baptist, she was Roman Catholic -was gradually "Work it out" over a year or so while we were dating. Turns out Her Parish Priest (in Hyde Park MA) was also a Christian (some of 'em are), and She was a Born Again Christian (Catholic BS Not withstanding), as I was. WE wound up BOTH joining the Assemblies of God Denominational system, and that's where we pretty much settled for the last 55 years.

Interesting that only one person actually answered the questions.

Surely the answer should be, Yes I would go out with someone who did/does not share my beliefs so I might be able to show them in deeds and words what Christianity really is.
Should that ' going out with ' extended beyond a couple of weeks then attendance at my church would be mandatory.

Yes I did this with one girl friend.

So did anyone else?

If "going out" is considered some type of male/female recreational activity with a dash (or more) of eros, rather than part of a process for finding a spouse, then "going out" is an activity I think should be avoided altogether. Leave it for the Peter-Pans of the world.

If your goal is to find a spouse, then a mature/purposeful person would give serious consideration to such issues before the relationship got very far into the process.

BTW, when eros is part of the relationship, it's a misnomer to call it friendship, i.e. girlfriend/boyfriend. There is more to it and we should not kid ourselves into thinking otherwise. For a male or female to have a friendship with the opposite sex, it does not involve eros.

I think it unwise to date for the purposes of evangelism.

Hmmm, maybe I missed my calling (j/k).

Clearly someone who never had any teenaged years, or has forgotten what it was like being a teenager.

Yet when a boy asks a girl out it does start and continue as friendship, yes there is an enormous amount of sexual excitement and expectations. That is a large part of what talking to the opposite sex is about for teenagers.

Friendship is a vital part of courtship and of marriage.

But what this thread is about is did you or anyone else ever sit down and talk and talk and show by ones lifestyle what Christianity really is?

Dating for evangelism, no, more meeting a pretty girl, going out and while chatting discovering he/she has opposite beliefs to one's self and talking about them.

The "Christian" aspect of their personality would need to rule their liberality or evangelicalism.

I think the important thing is that he or she loves God and wants to walk the way.
Being a man. I don't se much problems with dating a girl, even if she is not a born again Christian.
I try to se if she is open or closed. I have met closed Christians and open non believers.

I would like to say on this that a believer should learn how to hear God's voice and His leading in all things.
That is essential! At least for me.
I think that He would know what I need and also what the other person needs.
So love God more than any person. And He will give us all of our desires to the degree that is good for us.

Even if you are right, what does that have to do with whether it is good or wise? It's fairly normal to have more than one sexual partner before marrying. Do we use norm to define what is best?

As I wrote earlier, if eros is involved, we are just pretending it is friendship. There may be an element of friendship, but it is more than friendship. And does something being a "large part of what talking to the opposite sex is about for teenagers" make it what we set as the goal? Do we simply accept that teenagers are incapable of making wiser decisions? Do we think so little of them?

if I,divorce or I an widowed this won't be a problem .

lesson learned .my,wife isn't likely saved .so yes ,do carry on thinking you,can change them ,not, that I'm perfect or so forth ,God knows but 19 years ,yeah I might know about this .

of course serious persons can drift away from, the lord ,of course there is that past bagger on what marriage from child hood, and no I didn't hang out much ,to,this day I can easily be a loner .covid 19 on that didn't change squat but my eccentricity shall not derail the thread or become one

If by sexual partner you mean actually having sex prior to marriage. That yes is normal among non Christians, but is not normal with Christians.

As for teenagers talking with the opposite sex, I am unsure just what you are getting at.

We have your quote above, pre marital sex is normal, then what I haven't quote questioning whether teenagers should talk to the opposite sex.
