I think Xanax should be much more controlled, because lay-people don't know what they're dealing with. The dependence and then withdrawal is brutal. To think decades ago it was over-the-counter, and people had it sitting in their living rooms in jars is mind boggling.
Xanax has a very short half-life, so when dependence on it is achieved, it doesn't take long for the body to start craving it. At certain doses, it's dangerous to quit. Seizures are not uncommon as the body does without what it has come to accommodate itself to. Too many people take Xanax without knowing what they are doing to their bodies. Don't start taking it, unless you have exhausted other options.
