Yechezkel - Ezekiel - Chapter 28

Seriously, do you just shoot from the hip?

Eze 28:12 - Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

You're right Sinthesis. When considering Tyrus by itself I thought of the city...not the leader. A lamentation was taken for the "king of Tyrus." A mourning for the fallen king. As stated previously, when Satan was "king" he was loved by God.

whirlwind said:
When Satan was the "king of," he was in good standing. That was in the first age before his rebellion and he was loved by God.

Was that when he was named 'Hiram'? More with your fabled first age. :nono

The first age is no fable. It is written. As far as being loved and "in good standing" the quote you gave tells us that. He was "full of wisdom and perfect in beauty." God appointed him the "anointed cherub." And too, are you overlooking that he was "created," not born?

whirlwind said:
Satan isn't Tyre....he is the prince of and was the king of.

No...The prince of Tyre is only a man.

Eze 28:2 - Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart [is] lifted up, and thou hast said, I [am] a God, I sit [in] the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou [art] a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:

Notice the similarities....

  • 11 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the Temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
whirlwind said:
Tell me Sintheis...what do you believe Tyre represents? If I am correct in seeing Satan as the prince of Tyrus then...what is Tyrus itself? I see it as a type for the first beast, the one world system...which gets it's power from Satan.

Tyre represents...Tyre!!! A successful culture who's worldview had become satanic and deserved God's wrath. One of many throughout biblical history. :study

Exactly. A culture under the control of it's king/prince.

Gen 3:4
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: KJV

This is the message that seals the sum of the wisdom of God. This brings transgression to its full and leads it to reach unto heaven.

This message was in the garden and on Mt. Sinai. This is the message on the garment of the high priest of the sanctuary service.

Iniquity was found in this message. It became commercialized. Now I will have plenty for years to come.

In this message there is the desire to restore the old, to return unto our wallowing in our dung and to return unto our vomit. There is the desire to be part new and part old; to serve two masters, while taking the name of Jesus.

When our Lord Jesus spoke to the disciples of his approaching death at Jerusalem, Peter counseled his master and said, "Lord, let this be far from you." This was the same spirit/angel that spoke through the serpent in the garden to Eve.

Yes and I thank you for that. :yes I wrote something yesterday that explains why we, as men, and disciples of Christ are to do what you just did.....

  • Luke 12:42 And the Lord said, "Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

The Word constantly grows and understanding is deepened although the Word itself never changes. He gives "their portion of meat in due season." He knows when we are ready or when it is time for us to get ready. He opens eyes and ears.

  • John 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Until then we can look at a verse and simply not see what is there....until we can bear it. We see different levels. It is truly Divinely inspired. My belief is as long as we "read, pray and wait for the Lord to answer," along with belief, repentance, and remaining pliable then....we are each individually just where He wants us to be.

Notice in the above verse He gives different portions of meat. He gives "their portion" which tells me not all get the same cut. FOC may be given a juicy rib eye, Jason may be given a tender filet mignon, while Sparrow gets a delectable roast. What do we do with those various portions? We bring them to the table and feed the hungry...each sharing the portion given them while partaking of the other cuts. In doing so the hungry are fed His Word and, as we are children of God, we can take that meat in discussion cutting away what man has added to it over the years, leaving only the God given meat.

  • Malachi 3:16-17 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His name. And they shall be Mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

I commend the words given you by His Spirit. I too have quoted some of those verses in the past few days....also led by the Spirit. At times it is as if saying "that the Lord spoke through me by his spirit/angel," causes dissension. I understand what you are conveying, I see the Spirit in it and I too "give our Lord all the glory."

Editing in....as I posted the above and glanced down at my Bible I saw written in the margin....

The unforgiveable sin is to not allow the Holy spirit to speak through you!

Because it's addressed to "the prince of Tyre".

Tyre played a crucial role building the Temple with Solomon.

Hi there! You are right Tyre did play a role in rebuilding a temple. That would not be the first temple of solomon but a rebuilding of a temple. By that time tyre was under persian control and the prophecy against the prince and king of tyre in Ezekiel about their empire coming to ruin was fullfilled by then.

Tyre played a major role in building the first temple.

2 Chronicles 3:1 Then Solomon began to build the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where Yahweh appeared to David his father, which he made ready in the place that David had appointed, in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

1 Kings 5
1 Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David. 2 Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, 3 You know how that David my father could not build a house for the name of Yahweh his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until Yahweh put them under the soles of his feet. 4 But now Yahweh my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence. 5 Behold, I purpose to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, as Yahweh spoke to David my father, saying, Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your room, he shall build the house for my name. 6 Now therefore command you that they cut me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with your servants; and I will give you hire for your servants according to all that you shall say: for you know that there is not among us any who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians. 7 It happened, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be Yahweh this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people. 8 Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard the message which you have sent to me: I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir. 9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea; and I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you shall receive them; and you shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household. 10 So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire. 11 Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

In God's great plan I see the place Abraham offered his son as the same place our Father gave His Son. But, I don't understand what you mean by, "that the first man Adam was formed from the dust of the ground." Do you see that as being on Mt. Moriah or Jerusalem?

Hi Whirlwind. Please see 2 Chronicles 3:1 and Genesis 22:2. By using these two references, you will see that Mt. Moriah is located in Jerusalem. In addition, it is this location where Solomon built the first temple to YHVH. Currently, a mosque is built in honor of Allah at that location and is cause for much grief to the Jews. In Jewish circles, it is believe that it was at Mt. Moriah where Adam was formed out of the earth. Thus, the temple mount is considered exceptionally holy.

As far as this is concerned, I think Sinthesis summed it up very well.

Read Ezekiel 27 and tell me if the author was ever to lament for Satan. :chin

Ezekiel 28 follows where the blame for Tyre's destruction is placed on the king and prince of Tyre who let their success in commerce go to their heads. Because they felt themselves masters of their own fate God chose to put them in their place. The Garden of Eden reference conveys the fact that Tyre was not always on God's bad side, for it was worthy to help build the first temple.

In Matthew 11:21 Jesus is condemning Chorazin and Bethsaida where He had preached and performed miracles, yet they had rejected Him. For this, their sin was greater than that of Tyre and Sidon, as would be their punishment. Capernaum's sin and punishment would overshadow that of Sodom.

If you believe Ezekiel 28 is actually about Satan, then you would not support your argument with Matthew 11 unless you think Satan would have repented in sackcloth and ashes had only Jesus preached to him. :screwloose

Ezekiel 28 tells Tyre that they have fallen from God's favor so they are going down. This may have parallels to Satan's fall, but it is about, and directed to, Tyre, unless maybe you think Satan has a sidekick named Sidon

There are many a chapter in the OT that can really enrich our understanding of the early Hebrews, their blight and the blight of their adversaries. I never heard about the Jews believing Adam was formed there....they see that area as the garden? The reason I implied it wasn't the exact same spot as Jerusalem is that Jesus wasn't crucified in Jerusalem but...

Hebrews 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered without the gate.

Hello again whirlwind.

As far as Mt. Moriah, yes, it is in the heart of Jerusalem. It holds a very rich history.

http://www.sacred-destinations.com/isra ... -mount.htm
The Temple Mount is especially holy to Jews and Muslims. For Jews, the Temple Mount is the site of the First and Second Temples as well as important events like the creation of Adam, the first sacrifice made by Adam, Abraham's near-sacrifice of Isaac, and Jacob's famous dream of angels and ladders.

If you want to get the above information straight from a respected Jewish site, you'll find all this information at http://www.becomingjewish.org/ and http://www.templeinstitute.org

When you look at the crucifixion, you have to be aware of temple language. As such, the cross becomes the alter, and the alter grounds the table. It may help you to take a look at the sites above to see the different types of sacrifices that were offered and what the intended purpose of each offering was to accomplish.. In regard to Jesus being crucified at Golgotha, which was just outside "The Camp", or, "Just outside the City", this parallels the ritual in Leviticus 4.

As far as Eden being Mt. Moriah, I've never read that. I've only read that it was Mt. Moriah where Adam was formed. However, and I'm not sure if I'm right or not, but...2:8 The Lord God planted an orchard in the east, in Eden; and there he placed the man he had formed. I"m reading that as Eden was not in the same place as Mt. Moriah. :shrug

As far as what we disagree about, at least it isn't a salvation issue :lol

Take care.

Sin entered the world through the desire for education. Knowledge puffs up, like leaven. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.

The testimony of the Lord was given through faith and only in faith does the spirit reveal the true Jesus.

Knowledge is at war with faith. Knowledge lifts up its heel against its master and kisses its master in betrayal for gain.

Human education blinds the understanding to the significance of Ezekiel 28 in the truth as it is in Jesus.

Judaism stumbles at Jesus Christ. Greek philosophy ridicules the truth as it is in Jesus.

The volume of the Book is concerning the mystery of God in Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ we live and move and have our being. He gives us life and breath and all things. All of the past, present and future have their truth in Jesus Christ. He is all in all. He is our life; before he came in the flesh, now and forever. The truth as it is in Jesus is the living significance of all the testimonies of the Spirit of God, which includes Ezekiel 28.

Joe

Joe,

While what you say rings of a profound truth, it does not apply to this topic at hand.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

The simple fact of the matter Joe, is that Ezekiel 28 has a rich history behind it that is rooted in the physical. Simply put, if you can't understand the message as it was originally delivered, you'll more than often err when it comes to the spiritual aspects contained within the scriptures.

Tyre was a real country with a real King and a real prince. Tyre is much much more than a name that only consists within the Bible and there is much information about this in other sources that agree with the biblical account.

Tyre had it's own culture, as do we in the present age and as such, Exekiel wrote in a manner that Tyre would understand by using symbols that they too were familiar with. You see, the writing style that Ezekiel uses was a phenomenon that occured throughout that region and was not restricted to just the prophets of YHVH. The style actually and spanned many different cults through out many different regions. Put it this way Joe, what good would Ezekiel's letter do for Tyre if Tyre didn't understand it? Wouldn't they simply think that Ezekiel was some off his rocker old geezer? Just imagine this for a moment... some old man comes yelling at you with a bunch of gibberish that you couldn't understand. Today, we put those types of people in little white rooms where they can't hurt themselves. With Ezekiel, I just don't see that being the case.

So then, before we start looking into the spiritual aspect, lets be diligent and Labor in the text and read the text in the manner it was to be recieved by it's original audience. Let us be prompt, earnest and sincere as we study and as such Joe, why don't you tell us the relationship between Tyre and Israel from the time of Solomon, to the time of Ezekiel.

17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. KJV

Rev 17:12
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. KJV

Rev 17:16-18
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth. KJV

Ezek 27:1-3
1 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

2 Now, thou son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyrus;

3 And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty.
KJV

Ezek 27:32
32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea? KJV

Ezek 28:2
2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God: KJV

2 Thess 2:3-4
and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. KJV

This is all one subject. The same yesterday, today and forever, in the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father as they reveal the mystery of iniquity and the man of sin.

I agree....this is all about the same entitiy.

Joe and Whirlwind,

For some clarity, I'm not saying that there isn't a spiritual aspect to Ezekiel 28. Are you saying that there isn't a historical aspect?

You see, Jesus spent a lot of time talking about the here and now and as a matter of fact, Jesus talked more about bringing heaven to earth, than he did about heaven as a destination... In other words, scripture always takes on the material... it's never separated from the spiritual. With this in mind, what did the world look like when Ezekiel 28 was written and what can we take away from the perspective for modern or future events?

I think these are fair questions. Don't you?

Thanks and I will appreciate your explanation.

Grace and peace,
Jeff
