Yet another math

We could use parens for clarity, ie. -(2/2) x 2 or -[2/(2x2)]
My Dear Aunt Sally rules apply:
Multiplication before Division, both before Addition then Subtraction.
the first multiplication is 2(2) = 4
the second multiplication is 2x2 which also equals 4
then comes the division
2/(2x2) = 2/4 = 1/2

As stated: (2)2+2-2/2x2 = [(2)2] + 2 -2/[2 x 2] = 4 + 2 -[2/4] = 6 - 1/2 = 5.5 or (d.) none of the above.
Just a correction: multiplication comes before division only if it appears first, the same with addition and subtraction. Multiplication and division are done left to right, before addition and subtraction, and then addition and subtraction are done left to right.

So the correct order of operations gives: 4+2-1*2=4.

Just a little math humor to lighten things up.

Thanks, I was in a rush to school (to a Math class, believe it or not) and didn't take the time needed to verify what I said about order of operations (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction) and left to right precedence.

I knew that I'd be corrected (if I stated incorrectly) but thought . o O (well... that's okay)

The corrected mnemonic would be, " "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally". It stands for "Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, then Addition and Subtraction"

What kind of homework has many differeing....:dunno :shrug :confused

THE TRUE SOCCER IS IN MY AVATAR; IN MY AVATAR; IS MY FCB - IS SOCCER. THE ANSWER IS SOCCER JUST LIKE THE ANSWER TO THAT PROBLEM IS JUST A PARTICULAR SOLUTION SOMEWHERE

I repeat: You know I'm kidding. No need to shout. I'm a "real" football fan, too, as well as an American football fan. They're both good games. Not compatible, but good games.

Classik you should be lecturing in Maths at a university. I am not interested in maths, so I am not even trying.:lol

Well...and whatever.:lol Your contribution is awesome. But you can't run away from 'math'. Life is all about 'math'. While walking on the road you apply 'math'. It helps you know when exactly to cross the road or do one thing or the other before the crazy driver approaches. While sharing the food to those little boys and girl you apply 'math'. You integrate and differenciate, multiply and divide....

Does anyone know the formular for reproduction? It is pure math: add bed, subtract clothes, divide legs and multipy...:thumbsup

I'll say one thing about this problem. Whether one uses "My Dear Aunt Sally" or just ramrods through the problem straight as it appears, they will get the same answer, so there will be a little more peace this time.
