Yoga And Christianity. What's Wrong About It ?

This is rather silly. That physical yoga has historically been connected to eastern religion doesn't necessarily mean that physical yoga can't be separated as a system of exercise.
And who said it can't be?

The article you quoted-

In fact, it is quite accurate to say that physical yoga and Indian metaphysics are mutually interdependent; you really can’t have one without the other.

Now read the rest of the article, and dare come back defending your own misconceptions about yoga! :x Here, Divine Names and Moniker and all the rest of you who come back with your relentless comments full of false notions about yoga meditations as opposed to the truth about the physical side of yoga! Read the rest of that article, which you didn't bother to read completely in the first place :-? :

In fact, I looked over the article before I responded.

See, there ya go again. :-? Yet another quote TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT. Why do you do that to me? :-?

Here is what I originally wrote (notice the big bold IF:

And who said it can't be? IF it is separated as merely as system of exercise without giving cause to the underlying truth behind yoga, then what is the harm?... That is, IF you don't manipulate your body to the point of not understanding what you are doing to it in connection to your WHOLE BEING.

Now please, stop grabbing at weak rebuttals.

Here in Minnesota we call it fishing. No spritual pitfalls there. Unless the big one gets off and you let out a naughty word.

lol...... 8-) 8-) 8-)

Hey I am a climber so I know the benefits of the outdoors.

Vic,

In the verse "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" I dont believe Jesus meant that only HIS PHYSICAL person embodies these qualities.

When He left the Holy Spirit was sent to help believers "emulate" this Way, Truth and Life.

Obviously the Holy Spirit is not a phjysical entity but a Spiritual one that INFLUENCES mans mind to emulate the peaceful nature of Jesus.

Christ living "thorugh you" is a much more effective Way for God to operate no?

That means Jesus is the only way for eternity. Believing Jesus and following Him is the only way for eternity.

Well I believe in Him... saw Him once actually.

But obviously that isnt good enough, since I find merit in other cultural interpretations of the Great Mystery of Life and Death.

Believing Him is not good enough; even satan believes Him. We have to follow Him until the end as His servants. "Faith without deeds is dead".

Thanks. I didn't feel the need to explain the verse. It stands on it's owm merit... and Authority.

That's a problem, for you. You see, it isn't that it's not good enough, it's just not good enough for you. That's sad. At which point do you decide when to believe or not believe what Jesus says?

John 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

John 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

John 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
John 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

Soma,

Are you going to answer what you meant by your comment on my Moses explaination?

So why wouldn't a western yoga practitioner keep the truths about the effects of yoga to themselves? Do you think that IF westerners really knew the core aim of eastern yoga and what meditations are REALLY involved with the true practice of yoga, that they would persue practicing it and integrating it into their exersize routine? Really Do you really want to think about SHIVA CRAWLING UP YOUR SPINE WHEN YOU PRACTICE YOGA? :o Of course the westerners are going to WATER DOWN THE TRUTH ABOUT YOGA! What profit is there in it if they didn't?

Relic, this really does look like loony nonsense. I have read a few books on yoga, and they generally say something about the original context of it. They don't seem to be trying to hide anything.

Enough copy and paste..... This is WHY I believe Yoga is Good from personal experience!

I was in martial arts for 7 years as a teenager into my twenties.

Now we did Yoga on Wednesdays (religiously - aka regularly) for the following reasons....

1. Circulation control - My Grandmaster Tom Gwak instructed us that the main cause of illness is the bodies inability to remove toxins through the circulatory system!

Yoga is EXTREMELY tough physically as you contort your body in all kinds of positions that require strength of mind and flexibility.

These tough positions allow blood flow to break into all sorts of small capillaries in the body and improve the bodies ability to fight infections.

The Lymphatic system is stimulated while doing these moves and it promotes health!

2. You feel GREAT afterwords!!!!! I remember holding certain positions for like 2 - 3 minutes and feeling the most extreme pain in the body. But once you finally are told by the Grandmaster to relax it is the most orgasmic/relaxing feeling you could ever imagine!

If you had tension beforehand.... forget it afterwords! You will sleep like a baby as well!

3. Control of your emotions - When you regularly practice Yoga your mind is trained to stay in the MOMENT. You are less apt to strike out in anger against someone or act rashly. You have a sense of peace that is hard to explain.

4. Physical strength is improved - This is more ENDURANCE than POWER like in weighlifting but technically Yoga is much easier on the joints than just about any other exercise. You will start to see striations in your shoulders, triceps, quads - you will look sexier.....

5. Breath Control - THIS IS PARAMOUNT! The key to Yoga is breath control and this aspect of my early training is still with me today. I am an avid mountain climber and the DEEP AND SLOW breathing techniques of the Hindus Yoga system is HIGHLY EFFECTIVE in climbing mountains as my friends struggle up the hill with SHORT SHALLOW breaths.

6. A sense of control and creativity - Yoga instills a sense of control over the body and mind, and creativity with God's amazing creation of your personal Self. You will learn that your body is capable of things you never even thought possible and self confidence is improved

7. Lovemaking with spouse is improved - Increased circulation means better lovemaking for married couples. This I have heard from MANY people (couples) involved in Yoga - "Asta la Vista Viagra!!!!"

This is Soma Sight's PERSONAL testimony on Yoga as I was involved in its regular practice for 7 years.... This is not merely a cut and paste!

HAS ANYONE HERE EVER ACTUALLY PRACTICED YOGA????? OR IS THIS JUST MORE BASHING OF SOMETHING THAT HAS NEVER BEEN EXPERIENCED?????

Has anyone ever practiced sado-masachism or are you just bashing something that you have never experienced.
Has anyone ever practiced satanism or are you just bashing something that you have never experienced.
Has anyone ever practiced crystal balls and euigi boards or are you just bashing something that you have never experienced.
Has anyone ever practiced mass murder or are you just bashing something that you have never experienced.

Nope, can't say that I have practiced yoga. Don't plan to anytime soon either even with your goading. As I said above relaxation is a good thing and those benefits that derive from that may well be real. The scriptures tell us that "spiritual" deceptions I mean benefits are not.

lololol......

So now Yoga is equated with murder and satanism!

Aye Carumba!

So it looks like Gingercat is the only one that has experienced Yoga personally besides myself?

Goading? Until you actually do a Yoga class for at least a month you hane absolutely NO idea of what Yoga is all about.

Anyone that judges Yoga without ever trying it is like a blind man giving his opinion on Rembrant! :o

I practice Yoga and Pilates moves. There is NOTHING spiritual about it when I do it. Now, if I was chanting or something while doing it, it might be different. I don't do that though. I'm usually fussing at my kids to leave me alone for 30 minutes while I try to relax and stretch.

To me all exercise is spiritual on some level.

It is honoring your body which God orders you to do.
