Your Dream Home

I was talking with a friend about what we aspire to have in our lives, and the idea of a dream home came to me. This is something I have thought quite a bit about, because I am serious about attaining it in my life. I'm curious, what would your dream home be like?

I would like to have a two-story home on an extended piece of land with willow trees, a large pond, and a stream landscaped into the property, including small waterfalls. There would be a garden area with a grove where people could sit on marble benches and talk, read, or whatever strikes their fancy. There would also be a fire pit with a barbecue and/or picnic area for entertaining, if that is something I/we (my wife and I) chose to do.

The house itself would have a master bedroom with its own full bathroom, a dumbwaiter, and a laundry chute. The stairs would have a chair used for disabled people (such as myself) who find it difficult to go up and down the stairs. The house would also have a study, a dedicated library and reading room, a guest bathroom, and a guest bedroom.

Downstairs, the living room would have several comfortable sofas and recliners, with a large fireplace (again, useful for entertaining guests if we have any). I would also like to have a full dining room, entertainment room (with games, a pool table, full bar, and so on), and a full basement that could serve a multitude of functions. I would also want a writing room, so I could get away from distractions when I am working on my novels and other books.

As far as the garage is concerned, I think a two-car garage would be sufficient.

My wife and I and our yellow lab live in New England in a three bedroom, two bath, Cape Cod on an acre of land. I've never wanted to live in a big house, and I honestly don't want anything more than what we have.

Our daughter, who lives in Hawai'i, wants to build a house for us there so we can spend a few months a year with her. A small, modest, home on enough land to raise mangoes and bananas and a few pineapples would be close to heaven IMO.

Sounds absolutely lovely even dreamy. I would have a wrap around porch with one corner shaped like 1/2 of a gazebo. A big kitchen, six burner stove, and a huge harvest table.

I should post a before an after my wifes landscaping. I will have to take some pics to do that. google earth has the image about 7 months after I purchased this home.

Whats crazy is I kinda have no clue but I dont want something huge (I still have to clean it after all lol).I know I want copper walls, small,a cross between nature and modern. What first comes to mind is a condo/loft very open flow and letting light in and huge windows from the ceiling to the floor and my cactus plants on my balcony high up in the sky....yeah I think thats it lol

if you do that, don't do that in any humid/hot climate. I know of homes akin to that here. their usage is high.2000kwh per month. that is about 300 a month.

I'm allergic to cleaning (not really). I actually enjoy cleaning, but I plan on having someone to clean my home, because I'm just not very good at cleaning. I wouldn't mind hiring people to maintain my property. I would like the "open flow" feeling, the large windows, and so on.

Thats a good point jason ...well ive always wanted black curtains that would be a perfect time to get them
I forget which route it is there is a home with glass on it that is almost two stories tall. I think its the live oak one. if google earth has that pic I can post it.

I like Egg Plant and I like the dark green.I like some of the natural colors such as taupe or beige or gray.

The stuffed chair in my bedroom is almost egg plant, very dark purple.
Your colors are very contrasting in shade, very dark and very light. That can be dramatic and beautiful.

I live in rental homes.I take what I get.I can not usually paint the place what I want.I know what colors I would use if God would ever Bless me with enough money to buy my own home.I know I would have hardwood floors in our bedrooms because both my son and I have allergies.Carpet is bad for allergies.

Jake had/has allergies so we took out the carpet in both the kids rooms and put in hardwood.
I hope you can have your own home again, too.
