“And you shall make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD (Ex. 28:36).

Aaron, the brother of Moses, was the first Great High Priest of Israel, a symbol of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is forever our High Priest (Heb. 7:26-27).

Aaron, as the Great High Priest, wore a crown of sorts, which was to bear on its front a golden plate bearing the words, “HOLINESS TO THE LORD.” In the coming Millennium, this engraving will appear on the bells of the horses (Zech., Chpt. 14). The golden plate and its engraving pictured Israel as an election before God. Imperfect as Israel was in herself, as thus represented by Aaron and his crown, she was Holiness itself.

Believer, look away from your ten thousand failures, and look upon the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is Holiness Personified, symbolized by Aaron. Realize that your Holiness is, and ever shall be, altogether in Christ. Your Faith in Him and His Perfect Sacrifice guarantees such Holiness, and a Perfect Holiness, at that, which is the only type of
Holiness that God will accept.

Man cannot perfect Holiness within himself and by his own machinations, no matter how hard he tries. It is attained only by looking exclusively to Christ and His Atoning Sacrifice (Gal. 2:20-21).”

“And you shall make an Altar to burn incense upon: of shittim wood shall you make it (Ex. 30:1).

When Aaron and his sons were anointed, with the description given in the Twenty-ninth Chapter of Exodus, the sons were anointed with him, and not he with them. Everything is connected with Jesus, of which Aaron was a Type.

The Precious Blood of Christ had first to be poured out before the Spirit could be poured forth; and sinners must first be washed from their sins in that Precious Blood before they can be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Thus cleansed and sanctified, worship at the Golden Altar of Incense is possible; but not otherwise!

This Golden Altar of Incense sat immediately in front of the Veil which separated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle. Coals of fire were to be taken from the Brazen Altar outside and placed on the Golden Altar, with Incense poured over the coals, which typified the Intercession of Christ on behalf of His People.

Having brought His People out of Egypt, God established the Brazen Altar outside the Tabernacle and the Golden Altar inside; He appointed a Mediator to maintain relationship with Him in order that He might dwell among them. That Mediator was Aaron, the High Priest. The Brazen Altar symbolized the perfection of Christ’s Sacrifice for sin; the Golden Altar, the preciousness of His Person. The Golden Altar itself spoke of Jesus. The wood and the gold pre-figured His Humanity and Deity; it was crowned and it had staves to bear it so as to be the day and night companion of a pilgrim people.

The Incense burned upon it spoke of Him. Aaron himself, in his robes of glory, pictured Him; and the light of the Golden Lampstand foretold Him, Who, being the Light of that world that needs no sun, came into this world to be its Light. That Light is Jesus!”

“And Aaron shall make an Atonement upon the horns of it once a year with the Blood of the Sin Offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make Atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the LORD (Ex. 30:10).

The fire of 30:7 and the blood of 30:10 teach that there can be no acceptable worship apart from Atonement. In the matter of Atonement, all worshippers stand on one common ground, and that is the Sacrifice of Christ.

The word “Atonement” means, in the Hebrew Text, “a cover”; it is not the English word “at-one-ment.” “Now our sins may all be covered with the Precious Blood He shed” (Ps. 32:1).

The Brazen Altar was for the sinner; the Brazen Laver for the Saint. The former testified of the Blood of Christ; the latter, of the Word of God. The former cleansed the conscience; the latter, the conduct.

The sons of Aaron, already cleansed, clothed, and crowned, had nevertheless to wash their hands and feet in the Laver before entering the Tabernacle or approaching the Altar. To maintain conscious fellowship with God and to be effective Ministers in Priestly service for man, the daily washing of the Word must never be neglected, lest death enter the soul.

Every Believer stands on the common ground of Calvary and the Word; in Old Testament times, the former was represented by the Brazen Altar, and the latter was represented by the Brazen Laver. Regrettably, most of the worship that is presently claimed to be unto the Lord is not based on the Atoning Work of Calvary, but rather on something else. And it doesn’t really matter what else it is, if it’s not the Cross, it’s not acceptable to God (Eph. 2:13-18).”

“When you number them . . . This they shall give, every one who passes among them who are numbered, half a Shekel after the shekel of the Sanctuary: (a shekel is 20 gerahs an half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD (Ex. 30:12-13).

Whenever the people of Israel were numbered, in other words, a census taken, every person from 20 years old and above had to give a half shekel, which was, in a sense, a tax. The “shekel” was of silver; in the Old Testament, silver was a symbol of Redemption. All, whether rich or poor, had to give the same amount, signifying that Redemption, of which all of this was a type, was the same for all.

This, no doubt, is one of the reasons the Lord grew incensed with David when he numbered the people. Every evidence is that David ignored the census tax, which meant that he, in effect, was ignoring the very basis of Israel’s existence — the Shed Blood of the Lamb.

This is basically the reason that David responded as he did when he went to purchase the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite for the purpose of offering up sacrifice. The Jebusite offered it to David for nothing, but David said, “No; but I will surely buy it of you at a price: neither will I offer up Burnt Offerings unto the LORD my God of that which does cost me nothing” (II Sam. 24:24).

We are bought with a price, and that price is the Shed Blood of Jesus Christ.”

This is a great word, however we must pursue holiness just as we must pursue peace with all men.

This requires effort.

Not “self effort” but an effort that is guided and motivated by love; By the Spirit of Christ in us, who is our source of holiness and righteousness and peace.

Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

“You shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: everyone who defiles it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people (Ex. 31:14).

“My Sabbath you shall keep.” What distinguishes God’s people is participation in God’s rest. Christ is God’s rest (Heb., Chpt. 4). The honor, or dishonor, done to the Sabbath was the test under Law; the honor, or dishonor, done to Christ, the test under Grace. Death was the penalty of dishonoring the Sabbath of the Old Testament; a similar penalty attaches to dishonoring Christ, i.e., spiritual death.

The Sabbath was associated with the Manna (Ex., Chpt.16), with the giving of the Law (Ex., Chpt. 20), and with the building of the Tabernacle (Ex., Chpt. 31). Zeal in building the Tabernacle, enthusiasm in observing the Law, and energy in gathering the Manna were not permitted to disturb God’s rest.

When Christ came, He in totality fulfilled the symbolism of the Sabbath, as well as everything else which pertained to the Mosaic Law. He, as stated, is our rest. Following Him constitutes keeping the Sabbath, which no longer pertains to a special day as it did in Old Testament times, but pertains presently to every day.”

“14 Follow peace with all men, and Holiness (every effort must be made to live peacefully with all men, but not at the expense of Holiness, i.e., “the compromising of the Word”), without which no man shall see the Lord (Holiness cannot be brought about by Law; it can only be brought about by Grace, which is made possible by the Cross):

15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the Grace of God (we frustrate the Grace of God, and can even fall from Grace, if we function outside the Cross [Gal. 2:21; 5:4]); lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you (to try to live for God outside of His prescribed order, which is the Cross, will bring nothing but failure, thereby, providing fertile ground for “roots of bitterness”), and thereby many be defiled (speaks of works of the flesh [Gal. 5:19-21]);” Hebrews 12

Do you believe we as Christians must pursue holiness?

The law was not mentioned in my post.

It seems you did not read my response.

We as born again Christians must actively participate with the Holy Spirit in these things.

This is called being led by the Spirit.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:12-14

It is by "Grace" through "Faith" that the "Temple" is built (we are the Temple); or all things become Law [of sin and death - the curse]! Romans 8:2

The only thing that God will accept from any Believer is "Faith" in His Son Jesus and the Cross of Calvary where the victory was won, i.e., The Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus.

God has chosen to operate His work from the basis of faith.

It is the Holy Spirit that birth and produce all things that are needed in our hearts and lives, and He does according to our Faith anchored firmly in the Cross.

“2 For the Law (that which we are about to give is a Law of God, devised by the Godhead in eternity past [I Pet. 1:18-20]; this Law, in fact, is “God’s Prescribed Order of Victory”) of the Spirit (Holy Spirit, i.e., “the way the Spirit works”) of Life (all life comes from Christ, but through the Holy Spirit [Jn. 16:13-14]) in Christ Jesus (any time Paul uses this term or one of its derivatives, he is, without fail, referring to what Christ did at the Cross, which makes this “life” possible) has made me free (given me total Victory) from the Law of Sin and Death (these are the two most powerful Laws in the Universe; the “Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus” alone is stronger than the “Law of Sin and Death”; this means that if the Believer attempts to live for God by any manner other than Faith in Christ and the Cross, he is doomed to failure).” Romans 8:2

Anything and everything becomes Law if it is not by Grace through Faith and Him Crucified. It becomes a Law!

Please show us the scripture that says what the Holy Spirit leads us to do is the law.

The Holy Spirit dwells in us to lead us and empower us to practice righteousness, pursue righteousness, holiness, peace and love.

This is being led by the Spirit.

This is the life of faith; responding to the leading of the Spirit in obedience.

The obedience of faith.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:13-14

  • f by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
  • For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

The Spirit lives in us to empower us to do these things.

This is the life of faith; The life of the righteousness of faith.

Not the law.

“And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt (Ex. 32:4).

Moses was on top of the mountain, dealing with Heavenly things, while, at the foot of the mountain, Aaron and the people sat at the feet of Satan, admiring a golden calf, and dancing and singing around it. The Devil can make men dance and sing, or writhe and scream, if either action can oppose or dishonor Christ.

The calf was the great god of the Egyptians. It was carried in the vanguard of their processions. Sacrifices were offered to it, and lascivious dances executed in its honor. It was worshipped as the generator of life.

People who are ignorant of the brute condition of fallen man’s heart think it incredible that men and women who passed through the Red Sea, who daily looked upon the pillar of fire, who heard the Voice of God, and who witnessed the sublime terrors of Mount Sinai, could possibly have fallen, and in so short a time, into such gross idolatry. The Apostle Paul did not share this incredulity, for he declares that these facts admonish the Church (I Cor., Chpt. 10).

Moses had gone up on high, but because he delayed to return, Israel made a god they could see. So it is today. Christendom prefers a human priest and a little piece of bread that may be seen and handled to the Divine Priest Who has passed into the Heavens.

One of the depths of Satan is not to abolish God, but to represent Him by something visible. Hence the feast of Exodus 32:5 was proposed as a feast to Jehovah. Also Satan can, through a religious teacher like Aaron, associate idolatry with Christ, recognize the good in all religions, and provide a worship that appeals to man’s natural heart. In fact, everything, as it regards the golden calf, was done by Aaron under the cover of “religion.”

As someone has well said, “The doing of religion is the most powerful narcotic in the world.” Anything and everything that departs from Christ and the Cross must be constituted as mere religion (Williams).”

“If his offering be a Burnt Sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the Tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD (Lev. 1:3).

There were five great Offerings in the Levitical Law: the Burnt Offering, the Meal Offering, the Trespass Offering, the Peace Offering, and the Sin Offering (Lev. Chpts. 1-7). God only accepted such Offerings as He Himself ordained. The worshipper, imperfect and sinful in himself, was accepted in the perfection of the Offering. The conscience under the old Levitical Law being a reflection of the Sacrifice remained imperfect because Levitical Sacrifices were imperfect. Christ’s Sacrifice being perfect gives a perfected conscience; therefore, a peace that nothing can destroy.

The Burnt Offering typified Christ offering Himself without spot to God. It was a voluntary Offering. So Christ delighted to do God’s Will. He laid down His Life of Himself. Therefore, it is that the victim was a male without blemish. This signified the spotless Perfection of Christ’s Manhood. The entire Sacrifice was burned on the Altar; that is, it was wholly for God. Such was the devotion of Christ’s Heart.

The skin of the Sacrifice was given to the Priests. Only the mere surface of Christ’s offering up of Himself to God can be apprehended by the Believer. The infinite depths of that great surrender are beyond human understanding.

The inwards of the Sacrifice were washed with water, so Christ’s Emotions, as well as His Ways and Words, when judged by the Word of God, were found to be sinless. With respect to Him, all within and without had no blemish. Therefore, Faith in Him Alone and what He did for us at the Cross brings about acceptance by God.”

“and if his oblation be a sacrifice of Peace Offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD (Lev. 3:1).

The infinite fullness of the Atoning Sacrifice of Christ needed many Offerings to show forth, even faintly, its plenitude and veracity. The Burnt Offering pictured Christ dying; the Meal Offering, Christ living; and Leviticus, Chapter 3, presents Him as making peace by the Blood of His Cross, and so establishing for man communion with God (Eph., Chpt. 2).

The Burnt Offering was a male; the Peace Offering, male or female, in either case, without blemish.

When the Offering was presented, the worshipper laid his hand upon the head of the Offering, and its blood was sprinkled on the Altar round about; for fellowship is encircled by Atonement and only exists within it. Thus, God and the worshipper were brought into fellowship. Peace was established. Its eternal and unshakable foundation was not the worthfulness of the worshipper, but the preciousness of the sprinkled blood.

All the fat was wholly burned upon the Altar as a sweet savor. The fat and the blood symbolized the priceless life and precious inward affections of the Lamb of God. All of this gave He for us on the Cross of Calvary, of which all of this in the Levitical Law was a type.”
