Matthew 12
(40) For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
1 Corinthians 7
(2) Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
(3) Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
(4) The wife hath not power of her own body, but the...
Well, sorta, but not exactly to our English understanding.
The Hebrew word is "olam", usually translated as forever or everlasting.
Hebrew does not actually have a word corresponding to our English understanding of "eternity".
"Olam" just has the meaning "to the horizon there is no end in...
Jeremiah 31
(31) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
(32) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which...
Well, not sure I can convey the thought in one post, but I'll try.
At least to give an idea of the direction I take.
I see all of scripture as Christ centered, not man centered.
And that includes the Sabbath.
As we just saw, God finished his work and then rested.
Compare that to Christ.
From...
What are we to "remember" about it?
Genesis 2
(1) Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
(2) And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
(3) And God blessed the seventh...
Ahhh, now we're getting somewhere!
In other words, there were times when one was actually SUPPOSED TO break the letter of the law because showing mercy and compassion had precedence over the letter of the law.
Which brings us to a profound statement:
Galatians 5
(14) For all the law is...
I can appreciate where you are coming from.
But here is where I'm coming from:
If you have a garden of corn in your yard, the AMOUNT you pick does not determine whether it is a harvest or not.
Every single time you pick an ear of corn from that garden would be considered harvesting, whether...
Oh I readily concede that the Pharisees "invented" restrictions for Sabbath keeping.
But I have doubts that this particular one about gathering food on the Sabbath was one of those "inventions".
Not gathering food on the Sabbath has scriptural support.
In the wilderness (when manna fell), the...
Actually, Jesus does does not dispute that the law the Pharisees were speaking of was not valid.
Instead, Jesus points out that the SAME LAW that said only priests were to eat the temple shewbred was also broken to show compassion and mercy.
A priest allowed David and his men to eat the temple...
I sympathize with your dilemma.
Be careful not to hold onto any one verse too terribly strict.
Because at first glance, it would appear that ANYONE whom the Father gave to the Son would have eternal life.
But later in this same chapter, we read:
John 17
(11) And now I am no more in the...
True.
Well, no.
Stigma is the Greek word for six (6).
If John had meant to write 6 6 6, he would have written stigma stigma stigma.
But that's not what he wrote.
He wrote chi xi stigma.
chi is the Greek word for 600, not 6.
xi is the Greek word for 60, not 6.
Theophilus is correct.
It is...
Amen.
Romans 3
(21) But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
(22) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
(23) For all have...
Excellent!
The priest gave David and his men the shewbread from the temple to eat.
But he was "righteous" for doing so, even though it was against "the law" to do so.
Rahab LIED to the soldiers about the spies hiding in her home.
She was "righteous" for doing so.
Mercy, grace, justice, and...
That's usually the one that shuts the mouths of those that explain all the others as "natural" occurrences.
And perhaps Pharaoh thought the same thing ..... "Maybe this is all just a natural coincidence." ..... UNTIL that 10th plague, which happens to be the very one that convinced Pharaoh...
We are many things ...... sheep, bride, branches, sons, priests, etc.
But in the context of who was to rest on the Sabbath day, priests did not rest on that day as others were commanded to do so.
Matthew 12
(5) Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the...
Well, it seems it is my day to agree with CyberJosh!
(Just agreed with him in another thread).
I don't think one can legitimately place one set of writings over another (such as LXX vs. MT).
Gonna have to examine each verse individually of every text available to make a informed educated...
I agree with CyberJosh that to hold it to strict literal wording might leave one a bit neglectful of the concept being conveyed.
Isaiah 65
(17) For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
The same concept can be seen here...
