Is Ace, quite uplifting, and spiritual. Though I don't like any old old Christian music (Maybe some)

Those hymns sound awful to me, but Christian music today is 5 thumbs up.

Yeah I don't know what it is about that music, but you feel your walking away with a cleaner mind.

King's X post Dogman drifts away from Christian music. Tapehead and Ear Candy are still amazing Albums though. Everything after that is still pretty good but they become more pointed with their issues with organized religion.

Well it's mainly because the frontman/bassist sruggled with homosexuality and shortly before the recording of Dogman it was discovered and they lost their entire support network and we're blacklisted and dropped from their lable. Even though Dougl was distancing himself from it. So they got burned. Still an amazing group. He has amazing bass tone.

Definately, one of my favorite bands. Up their with Queen, Devin Townsend, and Black Sabbath.


Oh for another Christian artist, check out Mathew Ebel. He can be cheese but Good Bye Planet Earth and Beer & Coffee are amazing albums.

There is a fair bit of good Christian music out there, depending on the genre. But in church, hymns are great and are still generally the best for strong theological content.

I had enough of modern "Christian" music when I heard the lyric about Jesus giving me a "big sloppy wet kiss."

And I do have an appreciation of music which can be used as a means of assisting someone (or a congregation) to focus on Jesus and to approach the throne of God. If the result is that you want to get down on your knees (or face) before God and worship, then the music has accomplished it's purpose.

The music may be such as to bring forth a spirit of rejoicing before the LORD for all He has done. But, if that is the end (telos) purpose of the music than it falls short of worship which is the proper attitude of a believer in the presence of the LORD. And, yes, He is present in the praises of His people.

Many of the old hymns were scripture put to music which glorify and exalt the LORD as are many of the "choruses".
And some of them are insipidly sappy, imo. ("I Walk in the Garden" comes to mind but there are many who love that song. )

I grew up with hymns because the denomination I grew up in believed any contemporary music was literally evil, so modern Christian music was quite the discovery.
I tend to like Casting Crowns (very solid scripture base). And stuff like Skillet, though Skillet and some similar bands are probably best described as "music that is just written by people who happen to be Christians", most of the time. Disciple is good and also heavy scripture base. I also like some stuff by Hillsong and Bethel, though I understand some of the theology of the people behind the bands is rather wacky.
Relient K has a few good Christian songs, too, and probably my favorite band overall. Deathbed and Those Words Are Not Enough are examples of songs by them with heavy Christian themes.

My general music taste actually tends to gear towards hard rock. (Which is why Skillet's older stuff and Disciple and some others appeal to me.) But so far as worship music goes I just listen to whatever.

My son is a 45-year-old contemporary guitarist and bass guitarist. We were 3 hours north of Brisbane at a church service last Sunday and on his mobile he showed me the lyrics of a brilliant song. They were Christ-centred and promoted sound, biblical theology. He said he'd play the song for me as we began our return trip to Brisbane. Please don't ask me the name of the song as I don't remember the title. I'll try to find it's name.

He did that and the 'thrash' music accompanying the words was so loud and jumbled that I could not understand one word. I told him that I would not have known this song had good lyrics because I couldn't hear a word that was sung.

Am I too old to be able to understand the Christian contemporary music genre?

Perhaps it's because I'm getting closer to that time: What a Day That Will Be!
and When the Roll Is Called up Yonder.

I remember seeing an interview with a Christian Punk Rock band that toured Europe and North America. One of the members pointed out that they got to preach the Gospel with their music to people who would never even consider entering a church.
