I understand holy to mean "set apart." God blessed Israel and made them holy or set apart among nations. That was part of the reason for all the rules about how they dressed and acted. Like us, they were not to be part of this world. Live in this world, yes, but not of this world. That's how I understand being holy.
So what do I think it means to be holy? It means to live for God and in doing so we will be set apart from this world where Satan is in control.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
1 John 2:15-16 NKJV
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a NKJV
I don't believe it is possible for us to be holy in the eyes of God by our own power. Our sin nature gets in the way. Holy in terms of God I expect is to, "be perfect, just as our Father in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48 NKJV) which I also do not believe is possible for us by our own power. But...."with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26 NKJV)Really. I hadn't did a word study on holy because my 'puter crashed and blueletterbible doesn't work the same on my phone...grrr.
So it's not like be ye perfect, but, live for God. That rings truth.
Well. Be led by the Spirit. Aha! The Holy Spirit .
They don't call Him the Holy spirit for nothing, right? So to be led by the Spirit, is to be holy.
YES WE CAN HOLY =SANCTIFIED= SET APART question is do we practice it like we should.. then we have the word justified justification. which is another part of being Holy . holiness is not ladies growing there hair long or wearing a dress. or men having white wall hair cuts .or even obeying church doctrineWhile on earth here, can we be holy? Do you know anyone who is holy?
Scripture says, be ye holy, even ad I am holy...
amen Christ is our righteousness. to be holy it takes the Holy SpiritI don't believe it is possible for us to be holy in the eyes of God by our own power
being Holy is being sanctified we only become holy in relationship to Christ and we only increase in practical holiness as we mature spiritually. other than that we are nothing with out himI think as we draw nigh unto Him, He makes us increasingly holy thru sanctification.
Really. I hadn't did a word study on holy because my 'puter crashed and blueletterbible doesn't work the same on my phone...grrr.
