If we, as a country, want to spend the money and stockpile certain medical supplies in order to proactively prepare for something like this, then we can do that but it has to be done through our elected representatives. The next questions to ask would be which supplies do we stockpile, how much, and at what cost or which other programs are we willing to cut to make it happen? We don't know what the next event will require. This time it was a respiratory illness. The next time could be something entirely different.

First, that doesn't solve our immediate problem. Second, it's not my place as an unknowing bystander or Christian to support a statement like this. Besides, Nike isn't in the business of making the needed medical supplies.

During the swine flu epidemic, some companies did try what you describe on a low scale. It nearly put them into bankruptcy. Here's a statement from the article I linked below where it is explained.

Prestige Ameritech, for example, owns a limited number of machines that assemble, sew and shape the masks. A decade ago, it ramped up production in response to the swine flu outbreak by buying more machines and hiring 150 new workers.

"We made a really big mistake," Bowen says of that decision. It took about four months to build the new machines, which are as long as a school bus and cost as much as $1 million.

By the time they were ready, the swine flu crisis had ended, demand vaporized, and Prestige Ameritech almost went bankrupt. "One day — and it is literally almost like one day — it just quits. The demand is over, the phones stop ringing," Bowen says.

To make matters worse, the hospitals and medical supply companies suddenly had a glut of masks; they stopped buying for months.

There's more to this. Bowen only mentioned the cost and time frame to get the four machines that made the masks. He did not mention what other equipment was needed and the time it took to get that as well.

This past May 31st I retired from almost 30 years service to a company that builds case packaging equipment and I can tell you that it takes a few months to design, build, test, and roll out this type of equipment and it too might cost $500,000.00 each. They might also need cartoning equipment and depending on sterilization needs it could require other equipment that I am not aware of. What they did was no small undertaking and it nearly cost them the company and job loss in the process.

The Blame Game is a non-productive way to blow off steam, but if this where your head is at I support you.

China should take the heat ,and much rightly so.

If a crowd under the direction of Manson commits murder ,he and they should be punished and he take most .

I,see this no differently,

That's what happens when countries sell out. Trump is trying to make America great again.

The real question is why did China silence its press in the first place? I think the only reason that we wouldn't want to receive anything from them anymore besides anger is how untrustworthy they have proven themselves to be, and once its broken trust isn't something that is easily mended.

I think it goes a lot deeper than people can see, I'm not stupid.

I hope China does not get defensive about this blame game. Most of the medication I need is only manufactured in China. I would be more comfortable is we would say the "Chinese Government Virus."

Seeing how car parts are made in China, there isn't a whole lot of confidence in anything they build

A gate valve going past 45 degrees and it still won't close it fully.
But it saves money

Yes, I think most people know it's nothing to do with people from China. It come from China as a country, and it's Government should answer why reporters were silenced and critics go missing, nothing to do with anyone else.

I wasn't offering a solution to the immediate problem.

U can't support bringing industry back to the west
U can't support creating employment for the average citizen in the west

So u must support a communist regime who is run by a ruthless dictator then
And u must support the millionaires that own and run these western companies in China

Im supporting the working class in the west.
Who are you supporting???

I just remembered one important thing to help me answer my own question. They're a communist country. Enough said.

Thank you very much. This is what everyone seems to forget
This is a communist country run by a dictator

The rich in the west have become so greedy to increase their profits that they don't mind dealing with the devil himself if they had to

The rich capitalists are using communism to fill their own pockets even more.
Meanwhile it's the communist economy that we are pumping up and its the average working class citizen that we are neglecting

Is it possible it's not so much about blame as it is about accountability?

China did try and hide this. Had they told the world earlier, the rest of the world may, and I say may with all humility, but they may have given us time to stock up on supplies.

I went to the Dr today for a shot in my hip (it still hurts). None of the staff has face masks. When I asked why, they said it was because they could not get them.

Something else to consider is this. Most do not live on fixed incomes and like your state, many are out of work and are forced to take vacation time before being able to collect unemployment. Many are worried how they are going to pay bills. My son came home very angry yesterday because his company just got shut down for 3 weeks, or more.

People need a place to vent... I don't mind if they vent on our site... We all need a safe place to talk freely at times.

Yes, they just want to make themselves look good and also be controlling of everything. For example, the Chinese doctor who wound up telling the rest of the world about this wound up dead. Coincidence? I think not.

Yes and China might have also spared a lot more lives if they had confessed. However their government couldn't care any less of how many lives have been affected or lost by this dangerous disease and that's the part that's really rather sad and disappointing. :sad

You know I'm actually starting to agree with Michael74 on this one,.. if we had more machines (robots) over in the United States then maybe we could stop worrying about buying and trading goods from China in general.
robots could design and build robots. meaning that even if you have a degree , you might get the boot. thus I have mixed feelings on this. work, is what we are made by God to do. I see your point but yeah try facing disability and even know all these whacky useless jobs such as acting and sports that are legal and moral but do nothing to sustain the nation in this time may need to have a wage adjustment.

food for thought. I have no solution to the automation problems facing many. we are gifted for certain things and its not always possible to simply learn a new skill and get hired. ageism exists and while illegal it happens,my dad was hit by that.

No, I can't support making opinionated accusations about Nike's finances because I am not the CFO for Nike and I do not believe it is the Christian thing to do.
