Current Communist Goals

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Thursday, January 10, 1963

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.

At Mrs. Nordman's request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following "Current Communist Goals," which she identifies as an excerpt from "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen:

[From "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen]

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.

If you want to see the complete list, just google the title or use the link provided at the top.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." --Norman Thomas

"In vain do some think that socialism is merely a theory of economics. No, socialism replaces everything with itself; it is founding its own religion. In the resolutions of the various socialist assemblies and the discourses of socialist leaders one finds clearly and definitely expressed the demand for a revolution in all human thought. "Socialism is not and cannot be a mere economic science, a question concerning the stomach only... In the final analysis, socialists are striving to bring about revolution throughout the entire juridical, moral, philosophical, and religious superstructure" (Vandervelde). "Is socialism merely an economic theory?," we read in the socialistic catechism of Bax and Kvelch; "In no way! Socialism envelops all the relations of human life." According to Bax, in religion socialism is expressed as atheistic humanism."

"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism." --Nikita Khrushchev

Ironic that American still runs on capitalism, and Russia is no longer communistic.

The power of a market economy is that it was no one's bright idea. It's just the way people behave if they are not prevented from doing so. Unfortunately, like any freedom, economic freedom can be abused to harm others. Just as you have a right to bear arms, but are restricted from firing your weapons randomly in public places, so does economic freedom have limits. That this is true, is not socialism.

This definately belongs in this section. Mainly because the quotes are fake, the 45 goals demand you already accept the premise that the US is crawling with communists. The author never explains where they get their information, or when they do its from super secret sources. Etc.

Then you dig into the people pushing this and find out they are from a think tank that even other conservative groups have criticized as being extreme and conspiratorial.

NWO conspiracies were just a a reskinning of the Elders of Zion conspiracies mixed with the Red Scare from the very ongoing Coldwar between The US and USSR.

I mean if you call Nixon and Eisenhower communists, you surely are reaching. Plus the Thomas quote comes from Regan who admitted to his own editors that he made it up.

Yeah, with the John Birch Society, the American Nazis, White Citizen's Councils, and so on back then, faking communist quotes was kind of a cottage industry.

None of those things were true at the time that document was recorded in Congress in 1963. Funny, just about everything on that list has happened, just as they said it would.

The list is mostly just claims that can not be verified. Considering the list is mostly just social conservative issues and would not lead to the core foundation of communism.

Communism would require that there be an established party and the abolishing of a profit based ecconomy. As in no private ownership of land or business. Nothing on that list would lead to that.

Out of all the goals the only one I'd possibly number 32. 32 mentions social programs, but social programs are not communism. Social programs exist in all forms of government. The main aspect of socialism/communism is a centralized ecconomy without private ownership.

The list was written by a social conservative and the list is more about wanting to preserve a 1940s/50s moral ethic. If you notice the goals are mostly about cival rights, sexual freedoms, and begging the question of Communists already infiltrating the US.

It's a standard for this type of propaghanda, create a vague enemy. Tell you what to value, and if anything on the list changes you can assume it's the enemy. It's what is called begging the question.

I think it’s worth noting that a lot of social programs help stabilize capitalism. That’s what was behind a lot of the new deal…

Social programs to prevent total and complete collapse.

The list is mostly just claims that can not be verified. Considering the list is mostly just social conservative issues and would not lead to the core foundation of communism.

There was a time when people laughed at the idea that all those things on that list would come true. Verifiable? Just compare then to now. I've lived long enough to see both. Those who are my age have seen all the proof that we need. It's like denying that the sun is hot. It's just a non argument.

Communism would require that there be an established party and the abolishing of a profit based economy. As in no private ownership of land or business. Nothing on that list would lead to that.

That established party is called the Democrat party. They don't even try to hide it anymore. They are communist, fascist, Marxist, socialist. They use it all. If you think that you own land, or a house, think again. If you pay taxes on it yearly, you don't own it. Look at what happened in Florida with the HOA's. It's so expensive the market is crashing. Property taxes can do the same thing. Just ask those who live in Illinois, thankyou Barack Obama. You don't own anything that you pay yearly taxes on. You just have the illusion of owning it.

Even communist get to have profit, though it's called social credit. Socialism is a bridge to communism. Like anything, social programs, to an extent, are good. But they can also be a vehicle used to advance the communist anti-American cause. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that the former would disprove the latter.

The idea of ad valorem goes back to before stalinism in the Soviet union .

It wasn't much but it did exist .

The first casually of WW1 for st Lucie county ( the area Felix lived in is now Indian river )was the son of the county tax collector ,Felix Clayton popple, was the casualty .

Dave, You are not adressing what I am saying. I am saying that the 45 goals have nothing to do with communism. Its literally just a list of stuff that the Jon Birch society apposed. The author is just lumping things they disagree with in with communism. That is all I'm saying. Also, the goals were already happening during or before the book was published. The sexual Revolution, and civil rights movement started in the 50s and was in a big swing in the 60s. Also the US started the propaghanda campaigns of a moral ethic in the 40s and early 50s to start a national identity opposed to the USSR. A nation that does not exist anymore.

That established party is called the Democrat party. They don't even try to hide it anymore. They are communist, fascist, Marxist, socialist. They use it all.
You are just saying words that you have lumped together as bad. You literally can not be a fascist and a communist. Both have completely different models of how a government functions and hate each other. Fascism is literally a critique of the failures of communism and socialism.

If you think that you own land, or a house, think again. If you pay taxes on it yearly, you don't own it.
Property taxes predate the Democrat party. It even predates the Republican party. All 13 colonies had property taxes at the inception of the US.

Look at what happened in Florida with the HOA's.
Home Owners Associations are private organizations. They are supposed to be elected, but that depends on the private contract.

It's so expensive the market is crashing. Property taxes can do the same thing. Just ask those who live in Illinois, thankyou Barack Obama. You don't own anything that you pay yearly taxes on. You just have the illusion of owning it.
Property taxes are as old as the country itself. They predate Illinois.
Even communist get to have profit,
No you don't. that is literally contradictory to the entire concept. You don't have private property in communism. profit is the surplus value you gain after you factor out costs of production. Communist societies don't have profit.

though it's called social credit.
No, this is just a modern buzz word based on the misconceptions of a single country's system.

Socialism is a bridge to communism.
No, communism is a form of socialism. Socialism is an umbrella term for economic models that are critiques of liberalism/capitalism.

Like anything, social programs, to an extent, are good. But they can also be a vehicle used to advance the communist anti-American cause. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that the former would disprove the latter.
You don't understand what communism is. Communism is an economic model with a centralized government owned economy. Social programs exist in every economic model with a state. The military, Post office, infrastructure ( roads, waterways, electricity, communications) are just some of the most basic social programs.

A large issue here is that the person who wrote the naked communist and the others from the Jon Birch society are just extremists libertarians calling everything they don't like communism. Its just libertarianism but instead of calling the enemy "the State", they erased that and rewrote communism.

If you literally copy paste this into google, you get lead back to the Jon Birch Society. A group that thinks everyone that doesn't want to tare our government down to a Jeffersonian Agrarian state are communists.

Pure unadulterated free market capitalism does not and has not ever existed. There’s always been ways to control the poor and working classes…poor houses and asylums for instance…

And also usually ways to reign in the upper classes a bit for the sake of overall stability. Charities I think are a good example of that.

If one looks at Christianity…the visible church not the invisible church…

One can see that religious institutions can work for the elites or sometimes focus more on the needs of the least of these or at least the everyday people.

The USA civil rights movement was largely rooted in churches ⛪️. Today some churches have programs to lift the homeless out of housing insecurity. And then…

Some churches are focused on sort of emo experiences to take the edge off daily life in modern society. And some churches are also against welfare disability programs or anything remotely related to what they perceive as communism or socialism or even just progressive.

In today’s USA there is very little left of actual welfare. There’s disability programs that help many people who cannot work….

But actual welfare programs were deeply shredded by Clinton in the late nineties.

Food stamps are still available for some people but something like 1 in 6 people in America face food insecurity at any given time. The situation is considerably better in many…but not all…affluent developed nations. The uk is dealing with serious problems following decades of cuts to social programs…first thatcher later austerity measures after the 2008 recession.

Sorry if I’m rambling. The USA is very far from communism. Even china isn’t truly communist. Capitalism comes in many forms depending on how it’s regulated and what the goals of regulation are at the time.

In the 40s-70s the USA had far more extensive social programs safety net etc. perfect? No but it did lead to a huge rather prosperous middle class. Now…?

The middle class has been hit hard and the hits keep coming. Those below middle class have been hit hard and some of the wealthiest people have gotten even richer.

The pattern in the USA is somewhat extreme for a developed affluent nation but inequality poverty downward mobility and stratification are becoming international issues.
