The Perverted Gospel!

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye HAVE eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God". (1 John 5:13)

"But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he SAVED us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
That being JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life". (TITUS 3:4-7)

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, HATH everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but IS passed from death unto life". (John 5:24)

"Beloved, NOW are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we SHALL be: but we know that, when he SHALL appear, we SHALL be like him; for we SHALL see him as he is". (1 John 3:2)

These, and many other scriptures teach us that we HAVE eternal life and ARE SAVED if we truly accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and are Born Again. We can KNOW we HAVE eternal life, and that we ARE sons of God right now. Eternal life starts in this life--you are SAVED (See Titus 3:4-7 above)--past tense--in this life.

Contrary to the first post in this thread which seems to say that Christians think they are SAVED and do nothing more. That is SO FAR FROM THE TRUTH. Any truly born-again person in no way believes they are "saved" and can live any way they want to live, and don't need to do "anything" more. True---we are not saved by works---but if you are a new creation in Christ your desire is to flee from sin and grow in Christ. Only a phony Christian would believe that they can say a prayer and keep living the way they used to. That's hogwash---and so many who believe in "works salvation" use that line of thought. Or if someone believes in Eternal Security they will say "oh, you believe you are saved forever and can therefore sin up a storm with no consequences".

That is SO UNTRUE. A truly born-again Christian desires not to sin. Only the false Christian believes they can go on living the way they used to and enter the Kingdom of Heaven. A truly born-again believer will be led by the Spirit to live godly lives:

"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.." (Titus 2: 11,12)

Only a false brother would think he can pray a prayer and live like hell. Yet many teach that if you believe you are "saved" and "have eternal life" that you will live in an ungodly manner. On the contrary---because you are "saved" you are filled with gratefulness to God for His grace, and yearn to live in a way that pleases Him.
titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Note 1) Saved by both washing (baptismal regeneration) and the renewing of the Spirit! (saved means justified not full eternal salvation, but part of the process.

Note 2) this verse shows that baptism is NOT A WORK, "not of works righteousness" but God's work of a new creation in Christ!
(ez36:25-27)

how does one get "born again"?

eternal life does not mean eternal salvation

Jn 10:10 life (grace)
Jn 14:6 life (grace)
eph 2:1 & 5 brought to life of grace
grace is God's life in us! Jn 1:16-17

16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

fullness of God's life (grace)

Living members of Christ in His new covenant of grace by faith and baptism, then we must abide in Christ by prayer, fasting, alms, mass & sacraments, and the practice of the virtues of Jesus Christ, (matt 11:29) (1 cor 13:13) abiding in Christ (Jn 15:5) keeping ourselves in the love of God, (Jude 1:21) and enduring to the end (Matt 10:22)

Of course eternal life means eternal salvation: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not PERISH, but have everlasting life". (John 3:16). If you have everlasting life you will NOT perish---so you are SAVED. "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him" (Col. 2:6). We don't receive the Lord into our lives (a total gift of Grace) and then proceed to "keep ourselves" in Him. We "walk" in Him the same way we received Him---by faith and trust. Good luck on "enduring to the end" on your own. Noah was safely inside the Ark, not strapped to the outside holding on for dear life. The Lord WANTS us to KNOW we HAVE eternal life (1 John 5:13). Because the gift of eternal life CANNOT be earned or worked for. It is a free gift of Grace. Salvation and eternal life go hand in hand.

the one and other he is speaking of is the priests

we must confess to those Christ

There is no such thing as a hierarchy of priests such as that as the Catholic Church has set up.

We are priests. A royal priesthood.

To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Revelation 1:5-6

We can go directly to God ourselves and have a relationship directly with Him.

If we sin then we can go to Him and confess our sins before Him and be forgiven and cleansed.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

We can also go to one another and confess our sins.

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. James 5:16

There no such religious system such as the Catholic Church has set up in Rome, found in scripture.

You make great leaps from what the text actually says to your conclusions. Washing of regeneration is not physical baptism. A husband isn't supposed to baptize his wife rather he "washes her with the water of the word"

Not every washing is baptism..

and Jn 3:22 they immediately went to the river (water) and baptized
In regard to John 3:22, by this time Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus is over with and He has moved on. John 3:22 - After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing. Verse 22 is out of context with verse 5. What is still in context with verse 5 is verses 14-18.
in the natural you did not give birth to yourself
in the supernatural order you cannot give birth to yourself
Jn 3:5 cannot enter on your own, must be administered unto you 2 pet 1:11

Once again, the new birth is brought to pass through "incorruptible seed, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever" (I Peter 1:23) and the Holy Spirit accomplishes the miracle of regeneration. (Titus 3:5)

John 3

Whoever believes will never perish but has eternal life (born again)

john 1 But as many as have recieved him to them he gave the right to become children of God
so receiving Him does not make us born again children of God?

Paul said we are saved in this life.

those who hear the word of truth, and after hearing believe.(eph 1) they have been saved by Grace through faith NOT WORKS (eph 2)
saved does mot mean full blown salvation but a part of the process!

no. I have been justified

by one offering I am perfected forever. its a done deal

But I am also being sanctified. and ongoing deal.. I will continue to be sanctified until i die

are saying someone can lose their eternal salvation?

it refers to grace (Life of God in us)

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

have a baptism context

John prepared the way by “water baptism”! Jn 1
Old Testament prefigures baptism! Jn 2 water of purification

(inward grace) acts 22:16 heb 2:11

'The Father has set his seal' on Christ (John 6:27) and also seals us in him (cf. 2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:23, 4:30).

read carefully

Jn 1:12-13

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

they received Him first then were given power to become born again children of God
