The season for raking leaves is upon us

I miss leaves. I miss trees.
We live in a beautiful place and we see trees higher up and around on the mountains, but we don't seem to be able to grow trees at our place. They grow for about 3 years or so then die off. I think we might have enough topsoil for grass and shrubs but are too close to batholith.
I am nursing a maple. This is it's third year so next year we'll see if it comes back. Right now it has about 100 leaves on it. When they fall, I'll rake them into a little pile. Pathetic, I know.
However, the service berry bushes put on a great color show!

boy oh boy do we get leaves in our yard. Fortunatly, our house sits on the top of a little slope, so the wind just comes over that slope and blows the leaves into the field next to us where farmer Joe plows em under 
But.... There are two things everyone in our family hates this time of year.
1. Splitting and stacking wood
2. Raking walnuts... I have 3 Black Walnut trees that are about a hundred years old... We throw the walnuts away by the truck load.. Literally.
Speaking of... I have some seedlings that are about ready to be transplanted in a few more weeks... Anyone want them?

My yard has a tree called a Norwegian maple sitting right smack in the center of it. Now for those not familiar with the terrible tree known as the Norwegian maple let me tell you a little something...
Right about now the leaves around here begin to turn... but not the Norwegian maple! In another week or so the tourists will be flocking to New England in order to see those lovely fall colors we have... but they won't be coming for the still-green Norwegian maple! Maybe three weeks down the road the neighbors will be out with their racks... but not us because we have a Norwegian maple! Sometime around the end of November the town comes and sucks up all the leaves that people put on the side of the road... but they won't be sucking up any Norwegian maple leaves! Maybe two weeks after the town stops picking up leaves (say the second week in December) the Norwegian maple will begin to drop leaves... By the time the Norwegian maple leaves have finally fallen to the ground it will be just before Christmas. Then it will snow which will encase the Norwegian maple leaves under a layer of cold stuff. Come spring the snow will finally melt and THEN it will finally be time to rake up those darn Norwegian maple leaves!
Gosh I hate my tree SOOOOOOOO much... How much gas do I need to turn a tree into a torch?

Ehh, these are black walnuts. Only thing that can crack em are red squirrels :help
Besides, our deer in Michigan are spoiled... They eat corn, beans and apples...

Sounds like you live in a beautiful area, too. We live near a river valley that turns many wonderful colors in fall, as we behold God's wondrous creation.

Really? I know that they taste delicious! Except they are so darn hard to crack, and there isn't much meat in them. Now, hickory nuts.. Ummmmm!

Wow, hope your back is ok. Spent yesterday splitting and stacking wood, my back's a bit sore too.
Anyway, thankfully we've had some pretty windy day's lately. Actually, the wind's kicking up pretty good right now. Yup, yard's almost clear of every leaf ;)
