not with those they wont. google the atocha fleet and the rarity and historical significance of the coins. we have found canons and anchors etc as well.

Oh well, you never know, some people such as the Duchess of Windsor (the former Mrs Simpson) could pull off a hugely expensive look...

theres some legal battles over those coins they are huge about the size of a sand dollar and have usually a cross on them with a latin inscription.

they are worth at least 50k usd.

gold dubloons,. well this well go inline with what i have been cooing out of the net about my towns history. my boss has a topo map dated from 1949. a coworker and i have looked at it and found some of the streets of today. its interesting as then the old naval base was still pretty much there. our airport was a navy base.some of the buildings still stand. a few of the natural ports were closed and one made. that wasnt on this map. but came up in conversation. i figured where the navy would have its main get per that map and i was right. i guessed before the map was shown to me and it was where i thought it was.

but that is a digression. sorry. camp blanding and its well a recent expercience there and a sight of of old foundations that are on this map has gotten my curiosity going again.

Favorite pirate story:

My kid's school did a school wide project on pirates (small school, only 18 kids from K-6 grade). The project culminated in a school program regarding all things pirates. My daughter was to play infamous Edward Teach aka "Blackbeard".

I had to sew her pirate costume... one would think that a white shirt, simple black trousers and a red sash wouldn't be all that hard to sew... but we're referring to me here. I honestly did my best, but freely admit that the project was really out of my league.

So, with some well placed pins etc. Viola took center stage as the fearsome Teach... All went well during her solo role in which she had to read an essay that she wrote about Teach. Since she was one of the tallest kids at the school, the rest of the time she simply stood at the back of the stage made to look like the poop deck of a pirate ship. (Looked awesome, it really did!)

But, the climax of the program's entertainment was a mostly authentic, sailor "hornpipe" dance. Not only did all the pirates kick and hop about the stage, there were several times when they linked arms with a partner and twirled around.

That did it... the costume, never all that well made in the first place, began to give way... starting with one of the sleeves, but also the sash came loose as well. Which was very unfortunate because it was mainly the sash that was keeping the pants together.

Arrggghhh, me poor daughter...

I don't need Wednesday to pronounce that it's "Talk Like a Pirate Day". I make that proclamation about 20 times a year, and my teenagers always love it when I do! ;)

Modern day pirates aside, I've always been fascinated by everything pirate. As a kid waaaay back when, they were like super heroes to me.

And I agree with Dora. Pirates of the Caribbean brought out the inner child in me. I'd have to say the do-rags are one of the very cool fashions of the pirate. :yes

mike well they say that the bahamas and the also the carribean was a hang out for a lot of them.

rumour has it that american indians also did some pirating (the ais tribe chiefly) they sunk the spanish gold fleets at times.

The majority of true pirates stayed either in the Atlantic or in the Caribbean, as that is where the major trade routes were. And, subsequently, where most of the sunken treasure ended up.
