Romans 11:5
Even so then at this present time there is a remmant according to the election of grace.
Who do men think is the remmant and why?
It is true that the context of Romans 11:5 is speaking about a remnant of the Jews in Israel who were those chosen in the election of grace. However, we know from the rest of the Bible that
the election of grace are both Jew and Gentile.
Acts 15:14-18
Simeon hath declared how
God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That
the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and
all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. (Eph. 1:3-11; 2 Tim. 1:9)
The Bible speaks of only two groups of people in "the world":
Jews and Gentiles; everyone falls in one category or the other. This is the scope God had in view when He speaks of
"the world" in John 3:16; and
the "all" of the men spoken of in John 12:32; and the
"us-ward" and "any" in 2 Pet. 3:9. For
God's salvation by grace is only about His pre-chosen remnant. To preach that salvation is available to all men without exception is a false gospel Paul warned of in Galatians 1:6-8.
Isaiah 1:9
Except Jehovah of hosts had left unto us
a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah
And
the remnant are the third part spoken of in:
Zech.13:8-9
And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith Jehovah, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And
I will bring the third part through the fire, (1 Pet. 1:7; Psalm 11:5) and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried:
they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is
my people (Mat. 1:21): and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.
Yes, it is only
a very small remnant of mankind that is saved by grace.
Salvation by grace is exclusively for the election of Grace; no one else, for
election of grace precedes salvation by grace. Thus, there is no salvation by grace without election of grace. Paul stated in 2 Tim. 2:10, that he endures all "
for the elect's sake"; and in Eph. 1:13; that they may hear..."
the gospel of your salvation".
2 Timothy 1:9
(v.8;
God)
Who hath saved us,
and called us with an holy calling,
not according to our works,
but according to His own purpose and grace,
which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began (Heb. 4:3; 1 Pet. 1:20; Rev. 13:8; Titus 1:2; Rom. 8:30, 9:23; Eph. 1:4)
This is
the remnant Christ spoke about in John 10:27:
My sheep hear my voice (Rom. 10:17), and
I know them, and
they follow me: And
I give unto them eternal life; and
they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
My Father,
which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. (Mat 25:32-46)
