Since we have a little thread on NDE and death bed stuff going on....

...ESP? Is it real? What do you guys think? The only time I came close to believing it was real was while really, really, REALLY psychotic. I mean, seeing visions psychotic.

These days...

....I take my meds, lol. No more visions, thankfully.

But still I wonder...is it possible to have ESP, if only for a moment? I was thinking it could be some sort of neurological thing, somehow.

I am so very glad that you are not having any more hallucinations. Those must to awful.
ESP is a paranormal activity.Christians should avoid any kind of paranormal activity. That can include ghosts and hauntings,UFO's and ESP 1 John 3:8.

Hebrews 5:14
Having senses trained

Like 8:46
Jesus knew power had gone out from him (his senses trained for spiritual work)

II Kings 6:17
Old Testament seeing of hosts of heaven

Acts 2:16-17
Visions and dreams (about things of God )

It is paranormal powers. To be able to move objects by mental effort.

It's called Telekinesis. The ability to move objects using only the mind.

Since ESP is essentially perceiving or knowing something through a sense that most people don't consider a normal sense such as sight, hearing, feeling, smelling, or tasting there can be way to many types of ESP to generally categorize it as real or not. When it's a result of psychosis or some sort of mental illness I would agree it's not real. Especially when most people who experience what feels like ESP in these situations don't sense things that are actually correct or true. Or if they are correct, they are things the person also would have sensed in the normal ways.

But what is the guidance of the Holy Spirit if not a form of ESP? The Holy Spirit's guidance is something "extra" that we perceive, yet is not common for everyone to experience. Most Christians wouldn't say this form of ESP is false of bad.

I think so. But I really don't know for sure.
Yes, ESP and telekinesis are different things. Telekinesis (if real) is an action you take to cause an effect. ESP is a sense you have that gives you knowledge you wouldn't have sensed through your normal 5 senses. Jesus said with faith we can tell the mountain to move and it will move. If taken literally, this would be telekinesis through the power of God. (We have to be careful because these things can also come from Satan.) ESP could be sensing the Holy Spirit is telling you to go and counsel a person about their drug abuse when you had no earthly way of knowing they were a drug abuser. (Once again, we have to be careful to know it's really the Holy Spirit and not Satan or not simply a mental condition causing this. If the result is that the person really was a drub abuser and your talk with them brought glory to God in some way, then you can rest assured it was the guidance of the Holy Spirit that you perceived.) Over time, a Christian with this gift learns to recognize the subtle difference between sensing the Holy Spirit's guidance and just hearing his own imagination.

There was a movie out a while back called "The Sixth Sense".It got peoples interest up in this area. The only sixth sense we need as Christians is the Holy Spirit.

I agree.

My post #3 was training the senses given us by God at creation; by the power of the Holy Spirit. Word of knowledge etc, are an extension of of our senses. The OT prophets did the spirituals.

Satan is never to have control of our senses by trying to get us to turn stones into bread.

No extra senses, just God given ones under the Holy Spirits control.

I will add. We have 12 pair of cranial nerves. All the information coming and going use those nerves. I really do not know for sure what the bible defines as our senses. Part of those twelve cranial nerves (1/2 ?) could be abused. We put to death vain imaginations. The New Jerusalem has 12 gates. May what we see and speak etc. be controlled by Holy Spirit.

There is a problem when Holy Spirit is involved (problem for sin and former lifestyle).0

When we go from the flesh to the Spirit there are changes. Romans 8:5 where we mind the things of the spirit.

These things of the spirit are the righteousness of the law. Romans 8:4 these things are not the works of the law written on stone, but the law written on inward parts, and written on hearts. Jeremiah 31:31-34 (and surrounding text).

Hebrews 10:16-17 (heart and mind!).

The law (on stone) was but a shadow of things to come. Romans 10:1

So then a good Jewish Peter comes along and helps convey Holy Spirit on Gentiles. Then the Law written on hearts and minds becomes part and parcel of their relationship with the God they / we never knew.

Holy Spirit changes Jew and Gentile alike.
