My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Butch, You continue to misrepresent Calvinism and the doctrines of grace. Man is not like a poor lame man who wishes to walk but is unable. And because he is unable God punishes him. No, man is actually like Joseph's brothers. Genesis 37:4 (NAS) - His brothers saw that their father...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Butch, No, I don't consider physical death a punishment. And neither did Paul. Philippians 1:23 - But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; The death that Jesus overcame I will not experience because He...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Ernest, Interpreting Hebrews 5:9 in that way is a different gospel. The proper interpretation is that those whom He saved obey Him. Not that we obey in order to be saved. That would be being saved by works, not grace. As for God being culpable for the lost, I'll say what I've already...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Butch, I personally believe that this doctrine is stated all throughout scripture. So much so that I believe that it is a dislike for the doctrine that prevents people from accepting it. So can you tell me what you think of the doctrine? Do you think it would be nice if it was true since...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Butch, I completely agree with you that what matters is what the scriptures say. And not everyone will die physically. Everyone died spiritually because of the fall. Dying physically for Christians is a mercy, not a punishment. God bless, Brian

My approach to predestination and salvation

Based on this view I can certainly understand why you refuse to accept the doctrines of grace. I've already addressed this issue in this thread, but here it is again... What you seem to be missing is that every man was perfectly represented by Adam. If it was you in the garden instead of Adam...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Yes, context is important. And you do know that Jesus was answering a question concerning the Greeks when He said He would draw all men to Himself. All men meant Jews and Greeks.

My approach to predestination and salvation

There's a pretty big problem with that view. John 6:39 (NAS) - “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. You're saying Judas was included in this group referenced in John 6 and that Jesus lost him, thus failing to do...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Butch, I do not view my upcoming physical death as a punishment for sins. By dying, I will go to be with the Lord. Surely, this is not a punishment. God bless, Brian

My approach to predestination and salvation

I'm not entirely sure that I understand what you're saying, but I think I agree with you. Yes, you would be predestined to bring the gospel to someone. God lets us share in the joy of announcing His salvation to people. And of course this will be according to your will since you love God.

That's great! I'd like to encourage you to continue with what you are doing then. God bless, Brian

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Grazer, Yes, there is a general call to all, but a limited effectual call. Many are called, but few are chosen. And Christ died for the sheep, not everyone (John 10:15). Regardless of what you believe about predestination it doesn't make any sense to believe Christ suffered the punishment...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Grazer, I can understand your perspective. I would have (and did) feel the same way not that long ago. I would like to encourage you to wrestle with this and ask God to give you understanding. The reason why I struggled with this so much was that I didn't really understand God's holiness...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi WIP, No problem regarding the repetition. It seems I haven't done a very good job explaining what I'm trying to say. Let me try again. I'm saying that all who will be saved have been predestined by God to be saved. But then you will ask why we should bother evangelizing if all who are...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Grazer, Yes, it is an offer that is extended to everyone. But it is an offer that will only be accepted if God changes the person's heart and puts His Spirit in them. And I have actually spent a lot of time talking to atheists. What I have found is that they don't believe because they...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Sorry that I wasn't clear. I was saying that if you don't believe that God has chosen who He is going to save and that they're going to be saved regardless of what we do then other people's salvation is dependent on us. And if that is the case then people may spend eternity in hell because we...

Hi Vanguard, If someone asks you why bad things happen to good people please contact me. I'd love to meet this good person that somebody has found! Mark 10:18 (NAS) - And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. The proper question is "Why does...

My approach to predestination and salvation

Hi Ernest, It's really not about us. Salvation is from the LORD. God has been so kind as to let us take the news of His salvation to everyone. Those whom He has granted it to will believe. And what a wonderful gift it is to us to allow us to participate in this way. The view of Calvinism...

    Predestination: For or against?

Davies, Isn't it awesome how much joy can be had in knowing that we are unworthy worms saved only by the grace of God?! If this isn't proof of a supernatural work within the hearts of Christians then I don't know what is! God bless, Brian
