Bible Study Do we love the truth!

Well, this is more in line with my understanding of the Catholic view on salvation being by works (i.e., through obeying the law). But now I'm confused. I thought you said salvation was through believing in the Church and participating in the sacraments. It can't hardly be both.

I was just responding to the false notion that "faith", "belief", and "trust" included the idea of "obedience", which of course they does not. Other words add the concept of obedience (e.g., "faith without works is dead"). Faith is one thing, works is another. They go together, but they are not...

No. They are related, but not the same thing. See John 3:16. "Shall not perish" is salvation (saved from eternal damnation). "Have everlasting life" moves beyond not perishing and extends forever. We are currently saved from etrnal damnation, and we currently have eternal life that will last...

I didn't say that. But being saved from the tribulation is not the same thing as being saved from eternal damnation.

I guess you are saying Peter didn't know what he was talking about.

You proved my suspicions were wrong when you denied it. If you had read and understood what I wrote about the Greek words for "faith" (noun), "believe" (verb), and "faithful" (adjective) having the same stem, you would not be confused about the English word "believe" being the verbal form of...

So far so good. Can you please explain how you chose 2 pet 1:11, 2 cor 8:19, and Acts 16:17 to support you claim that "grace & reconciliation MUST be administered to us by the apostles"? It's important because I need to know what kind of person I'm dealing with.

Jesus was talking about two different births. Nicodemus understood it. That's why he asked if a person could go back into the womb and be born a second time. He thought Jesus was talking about two physical births. That was the impetus for Jesus explaining second birth was not physical, but...

Both of those are talking about the great tribulation. What does that have to do with everyone who died before us? And what does it have to do with us if the great tribulation starts after we die? But even if it were applicable to our salvation, I would apply the principle which Peter wrote...

I wasn't "trying" anything. I was giving a concise and to the point answer.

Obviously, there is a future aspect of our salvation, namely that we will shed the flesh and be given spiritual bodies to go with our redeemed spirits. But denying that for a saved person, his salvation started in the past, exists in the present, and continues for eternity requires the denial of...

Bible Study Do we love the truth!

I first encountered "Salvation by water baptism" almost 40 years ago when a Church of Christ disciple objected to the idea that baptism by water is only symbolic of the real thing that happened when Jesus raised us from the dead. I thought I had heard every argument about water baptism saving us...

Not exactly. We are born again when the Spirit of God gives birth to us. The question is, what action(s) on our parts, if any, influence God's decision to give birth to us? I find the answer in 1 Corinthians 1:21... "For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it...

I didn't accuse you, I was asking a question. Here is what I wrote: But now that I know there are really people like Hopeful 2 who deny that they commit any sins, I do concede that your comments could be in line with the false doctrine of sinless perfection. Maybe you could clarify. Actually...

Yeah, like you don't know that the original language of the New Testament is Koine Greek? You have a mix of two false doctrines... the false doctrine of sinless perfection, and the false doctrine of salvation by works. Due to the stiffness of your answers and your failure to address the...

Bible Study Do we love the truth!

Referencing verses that have the word, "promise" in them does not constitute an argument. This is a new twist that I have never considered before. Is it possible that you are saying salvation comes, not by trusting in Christ that all your sins are forgiven, but by trusting in the institution He...

Bible Study Do we love the truth!

There are a bunch of misconceptions that support these 11 words. The main two are... First, the universal church is not an institution. It is a spiritual house incorporating under one Head (who is Christ) every person who is made holy (i.e., the holy ones, the saints) by the indwelling of the...
