We need to be truly repentant (Romans 2), but it's faith in the Lord Jesus Who died at the Cross for sinners, that saves. Hebrews 7.25 says the Lord Jesus 'ever lives to make intercession' for those who believe in Him, always interceding on the basis of His finished, sin atoning work at the Cross.

1 John 1
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Jesus taught love. And love abolishes many sins.

If that was the requirement, we'd all fail. Jesus has taken our sins upon his shoulders for us. All we have to do is accept him as our lord and savior and put all our faith and trust in him. Sounds simple but few really find the willpower to actually do it.
