I will not lie...I have questioned such a posibility. Something truly that scripture and a great deal of prayer, and most importantly trust in God will allow believers to be made aware of. As far as certainty or a definant opinion on the matter...at the present, I have none yet.

IMO, I don't think so. I choose to take the scripture literally wherever it can be, and I believe that the verse which states that the Number of the Beast is 666 needs no extra interpretation. Although I don't know what the significance of the number is, all I need to know is there. Perhaps it will be branded onto people who wish to participate in normal life during the end times, and anyone without it will be persecuted (like a reverse of the 'jude' badge which has been used over the centuries): I don't know, but in any case, I don't think that it will be an implanted computer chip.

If a one world bank were to be incorporated and paper cash to be nullified, it seems very feasible that 18 digits would be needed for the population of the earth. And consider how easily it would be accepted. How many people currently use their debit cards for everything? It would just make sense for most people to accept the convenient change to a chip that can not be lost or stolen. Also consider the medical uses. If it were to contain our medical records, allergy information, blood type, and so on, it would be a great asset to medical and emergency personel. Think of how many lives would be saved if an EMT could arrive at a wreck and, through the use of a scanner, know exactly how to treat those who are injured.
A great number of people would quickly jump at this idea, and sadly, many Christians as well because they don't believe the mark to be 'literal' . Rev chapter 13 makes a great deal of sense under this scenario. Prior to this century how could people be kept from buying or selling without a 'mark'? Direct deposit, debit cards, global recession, control spending, rationing of supplies; the mark is easily the next evolution.

The book of Revelation does not "mention the mark of the beast being 666".
Here is what it actually says:
Also it [the second beast] causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast, or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom: let him who has understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty-six. Revelation 13:16-18
So this passage specifically states that the "mark of the beast" is his name. No one will be able to buy or sell unless he has either the beast's name marked on his right hand or forehead, or else the number of his name. In Greek, each letter represents a number. You add up the numbers corresponding to the letters of a name in order to get the number of a name.
Irenaeus (A.D. 120-202)suggested the names LATEINOS, EVANTHAS, and TEITAN, as possiblities, since the numbers corresponding to the Greek letters of each of these names adds up to 666. But he said that he would not "incur the risk of pronouncing positively the name of Antichrist, for if it were necessary that his name should be distinctly revealed in this present time, it would have been announced by him who beheld the apocalyptic vision."

The mark of the beast is how the beast's followers submit themselves to him. The right hand signifies what you do. The forehead signifies what you think. Your actions and beliefs show your true allegiance. No technology is needed.

It says "if any man WORSHIP the beast, and RECEIVE his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God" (vs 9).
