A Christian who backslid

"Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry, I struck him; I hid my face and was angry, but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart. I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners," - Isaiah 57:17-18

God knows you're backsliding, and He knows we're all sinners but he healed us anyway. We try to honor this great gift by turning from our Sin, not because we are saved by turning from Sin, but because we are saved by Christ and we should live our life for Him. Pray, praise, and give thanks; because God has saved you from yourself.

Out. I have seen many NDEs where a backslid Christian is in Hell in worse torment than someone who never received the Word in the first place. I don't know if there's Scriptural support for this, so if an NDE post in inappropriate for this forum, I'll refrain from it, it's just that this has popped up so many times in my research.

Matthew 27:45-46, "Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. 46 and about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"

Question is... Do you feel forsaken? It's a relationship, so just like when you were a kid you could almost feel your parents disappointment. I believe it is no different, if I can still feel him in my life then I have no worries.

I agree with Jethro. If a person keeps resisting God, there may come a point that God would just let them walk their own way.

I guess I would be in the OSAS category. God has love for us that no human could fathom. He might let us stray but, I believe if we do this, we open ourselves to hell on earth.

God loves us, yes, and He is a just God, but He also respects human's free will. If a person is sure that they are saved, then it's much easier for them to be lulled into passivity or stray, and these are very dangerous positions.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matt. 7:21-23)

Aannnnd here we go again! :horse :lol
It won't be like this if people address it from the place I've finally come to about it: We know what the Bible says about those who fall away. That's not up for legitimate debate. What we don't know is if the warnings to not fall away and be lost will bring every single fallen believer back to faith in Christ. Let's talk about it from that angle.

To me the Bible seems to talk more prophetically than theoretically about fallen believers being condemned on the Day of Judgment.

I think another issue we have is that "falling away" to one person may not be seen as falling away to another person and each feels they are "obviously" right and can't imagine why everyone else doesn't see it the same way. I think this is an area were disagreement and confusion come into play too.

Falling away = stop believing in Christ
or
Falling away = I've sinned

I don't consider the latter to be falling away. But I'm surprised how many in the church equate the latter with the former.
