Evolution or Creationism

:sorry
Spiders are not indoor pets, as long as they don't invade my space, we're good.
Well yeah they aren't indoor pets.. although when conditions are right they can be quite comfortable living indoors. Two summers ago I had one young female garden cross spider living in her neat and tidy net hanging between some of my indoor plants. Looking at how small the spider and her web were at first I bet she was only a toddler spider she first came to me. I often have my windows open, thus insects come in and she caught enough food to grow and go through two moultings and was like twice the size in october that she'd been in june.
So it seems she had a good indoor life. There was no captivity involved, either, she just chose to build her net there and I didn't interfer.

This is a bit off topic but I actually have a fear of spiders. If I have to crawl into a tight space and find a nest, I'll shudder instantly. It freaks me out to watch my neighbor pick up a wolf spider with his fingers and carry it outside to let it go. Got chills just writing this. Sheesh! :helmet

I'd be scared of that, too, but more like scared to hurt the spider when I pick it up, so I rather catch them using a glass or a cup and a piece of paper.
Wolf spiders are real cute, actually.

The sorts of wolf spiders that live here are nocturnal so I hardly ever get to see any of them close up, although I had some staying at my place, too, years ago. One of them spent the days sleeping under my old computer and only got out at night. When awake it'd run away like crazy when touched, but if you'd disturb its sleep (I poked it with a pen once, hehe) it'd just sleepily try to push away that pen using only one leg - too lazy to flee. Sleepy animals are really cute, lol.

Well yeah they aren't indoor pets..

Some people keep tarantulas as pets. But back to topic...

I selected "Creationism", because I believe that God created the universe and everything in it as described in Genesis. The Bible doesn't say how long ago that happened, but I believe that it was only a few thousand years ago. But if we read the creation account, we see that everything had the appearance of age as soon as it was created. Fruit trees were bearing fruit within days of their creation, for example, and Adam and Eve could talk and were sexually mature on the day they were created. That's why the earth appears to be billions of years old, even though it is, in fact, much younger.

Yeah, there's too many holes and assumptions in evolution, that evolutionists simply ignore. Like where did language come from? Supposing a species evolved to a certain state, where did the information come from for the change? If evolution happened and takes a long time, then where are the transitional species and their evidence?

Creationism, all the way. There's intelligent design and it's pretty obvious if you ask me. Goldilocks zone is the tip of the iceberg. There's too many facets of the delicate balance for it all to be an accident from a big bang or evolution.

Whether the method was progressive or immediate, Yahweh created everything. And Deborah we have an amazing spider here that likes to live indoors and eat our pesky insects. Don't ask what it drinks though.

Just realized I'm in the Apologetics section.... oops thought I was in the Lounge. Sorry guys. :p

Predictable? Not in my view of predictability or especially not observable from fossil records. For instance...
I am pretending I am a paleontologist I come across two fossils preserved in mud at some point in history. I see that they are different in their construction. One has a small head and a large, long tail. The other has a large head and a short, thicker tail. From the fossils I determine them to be two different types of fish. Ah, but they are not, they are little shape shifters who quickly adapt to their environment and change back to their original shape when their environment changes back.
"Interestingly, the cichlids didn’t permanently retain their streamlined adaptation, van Rijssel found. As more people fished for perch, numbers of these predators shrank. Once again the cichlids responded. This time they gradually morphed back into their old shape. Van Rijssel suspects this shift back to a larger head offered the cichlids a benefit. Big heads provide more room for bigger muscles (to crush bigger prey) and bigger gills (to consume more oxygen). Once the cichlids didn’t worry so much about fleeing perch, they adapted to other survival needs."

I know this is rather simple minded but when it comes to this stuff, I am simple minded.
So what we believe at one point to be true, even though it is literally written in stone, may not be the truth at all. And God chuckles.

Too bad there's no like button here!

Most spiders don't need to drink water like we do. They get enough water from their food to stay nicely hydrated. They need to drink less than we do (even in relation to their body size) because due to their hardened "skin" they lose less water with our soft permeable skin.
So even air moisture can provide enough hydration for them.

Gary

I would like to point out that in the videos that you presented, the concepts are boiled down to very simple concepts and taken almost completely out of context. For instance, the theory of Evolution is not based just on mutations, but also punctuated equilibrium, and various selection pressures that would take several posts to explain. Also variation and bringing up bacteria would take me putting together a lecture on phylogeny that would show how organisms are classified and the genetic lines of several organisms. Also, the example of why bacteria stays bacteria is easily explained when a person starts studying domains and kingdoms amongst living organisms. Also humans are still apes and all modern apes evolved alongside humans. So when the presenter shows a picture of a chimpanzee, it is a misconception because chimpanzees are just as evolved as humans, but are on a different lineage. Humans and chimps are genetic cousins, but are thousands of years removed. Its like finding out that you are 9th cousins with someone in a town near you. Its interesting, but it is doubtful that you and the person would look to similar to each other as far as human standards go.

Let's make this simple.

Below is a skull of modern man next to Neanderthal.

origins-7.jpg

Where is the fossil evidence of the slow gradual change from Neanderthal to Modern Man?

Another example.

Again, no evidence of transitional change. No Full body skeletons. There should countless examples, yet the fossil record is silent.

Fosters isn't very popular here it's an advertising ploy to make it look that way.

Cool I didn't know that ! These spiders ( huntsman ) like to occasionally sip upon .. wellll... you know when you sleep and there's a little bit of drool that comes out of the corner of the mouth ? :D

OH my ... thats alot of discussion about stuff that to me is just untrue. The fact is that we can see small steps. Bacteria can evolve many times in to new species over time. We can look in a microscope and see evolution going on. The eye is here because its taken millions of years to perfect it. We know exactly its evolutionary process. The reason we cant see a new variation in organisms is because it is TO SLOW. Its not like fish just gave birth to a frog. A fish-frog looking thing gave birth to a fish-frog with slightly longer feet that helped it hop SlIGHTLY. It took 2.3 billon years for prokaryotes to turn in to eukaryotes. Not instantly like at 2.3 it just changed. It is a constant minuscule change. To Gary whales and humans have vestige parts. The whale as a pelves used for walking well it was used to. Also human fetes have webbed feet when developing but get dissolved before birth. Probability is on our side there is 4billonyear's (hint hint) for all this evolution to occur. Just saying that evolution has good solid proof and thus it is a scientific threoy.
