Advice about buying a Bible and Studying it...

No worries. :) I asked for opinions and I got them. It seems I touched an issue that these posters care deeply about--an issue it never occurred to me would even exist. I definitely agree that the availability of the Bible should be as widespread as possible. That's totally part of why I was so shocked when I realized that both of mine weren't where they should have been. But I don't agree that a Bible received outside of church is in any way "dirty". If I can afford a Bible and need specific things from it (print size, etc.) isn't it smarter to leave the Bible I cannot use so that it can be given to someone who can? If my situation was different, I'd consider that the money I will spend would be better going to a charity, but my situation is what it is.

I could see the risk of it becoming pride if someone got one with a cover of gold and inlaid with jewels so they could brag how pretty it is or something, (and when I first read what was being said my first question to myself was whether the implication is that what I've come asked here is driven by pride.)... But since my main concern is being able to read the print and taking the time to choose the translation I read best so that I can study the best I can, I think I've (hopefully?) avoided that. I mean, if I find one that meets these needs first and that happens to be a pretty color why not? But that's not my driving factor. (Basically what's *in* the Bible needs to be more importance then what I think about how the actual book housing God's word is made.)

Well said, Kathy.

The New International Version has large or giant print editions. See HERE. Or you could inquire of the publisher, Zondervan Publishing House.

I recently purchased an English Standard Version large print edition. See HERE. Or try contacting the publisher, Crossway Bibles, for a list of the large print versions.

I also have one of my Dad's old worn out Bibles, but he went home to be with the Lord in 1973. That language of that Bible is not what I use today in conversation and I would not use it for daily use or for sharing Christ. In its day, it had a big impact, but that was especially in the KJV hayday of the 17th-early 20th centuries.

Interesting read by all, so glad that you want to become a Christian, and reading your Bible is a great place to start... my first Son too is legally blind, its a rare disease for him...I read the KJV in large print, easier on my old eyes....

You may find my website is a great place to start on learning to become like Jesus....
It's written in simple child like English, yet profound in other links for those not convinced of the child like simplicity of knowing Jesus...

God bless your walk through His faith....any Bible is good Kathy, your teacher the Holy Spirit will empower you where to go and how to get there....

These are the two I would suggest, Kathy. Either one in a study version, although both are quite large and heavy in the study versions.

Here is software I have on my iPod, Windows tablet, and PC: http://www.e-sword.net/

For my PC, I had donated money quite a while back and was sent a CD with a bunch of stuff on it, but I still had to purchase some Bible versions. I think I have most versions now.
